A specific increase in cardiovascular reactivity related to sodium retention in DOCA-salt-treated rats.

چکیده
1. Exchangeable body sodium was measured in deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA) -salt-treated rats by whole body y-counting after equilibration with a "Na isotope. 2. The blood pressure of DOCA-salt-treated rats is positively correlated with their exchangeable body sodium. 3. After pithing, the heart rate is significantly lower in DOCA-salt-treated than in control rats: in conscious DOCA-salt-treated rats the heart rate is also lower than in control rats but the difference was not statistically signilkant. 4. Cardiac and vascular responses to sympathetic stimulation are positively correlated with exchangeable body sodium in pithed rats, but there is no correlation between either cardiac or vascular responses to noradrenaline injections and exchangeable sodium. 5. Pressor responses to sympathetic stimulation in pithed DOCA-salt-treated rats are potentiated less by cocaine than are responses of untreated control rats. 6. It is suggested that sodium retention in mildly hypertensive rats specifically enhances responses to sympathetic stimulation by increasing the availability of the sympathetic transmitter.

Improved cardiovascular function with aminoguanidine in DOCA-salt hypertensive rats.
The ability of aminoguanidine (AG), an inhibitor of collagen crosslinking, to prevent changes in cardiac and vascular structure and function has been determined in the deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt hypertensive rat as a model of the cardiovascular remodelling observed in chronic human hypertension. Uninephrectomized rats (UNX) administered DOCA (25 mg every fourth day s.c.) and 1% NaC...
متن کاملHypotensive Effect of Taurine
We studied the role of diminished sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activity and endogenous opiate activation in the hypotensive action of taurine, a sulfur amino acid, in deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt hypertensive rats. Supplementation of taurine could prevent the development of DOCA-salt hypertension in rats, but failed to change blood pressure in vehicle-treated control rats. Cardia...
متن کاملIncreased renal medullary endothelin-1 synthesis in prehypertensive DOCA- and salt-treated rats.
To investigate the role of renal endothelin-1 (ET-1) synthesis in water-sodium homeostasis, we measured mRNA expressions, protein levels, enzyme activity, and receptor binding of the renal ET-1 system in a DOCA- and salt-treated rat model. Male Wistar rats were divided into control and DOCA- and salt-treated (DOCA-Salt) groups. The DOCA-Salt group received 25 mg/kg body wt DOCA and was maintain...
متن کاملEffect of DOCA-salt treatment duration and anteroventral third ventricle lesions on a plasma-borne sodium pump inhibitor in rats.
We determined the effect of plasma obtained from rats treated with DOCA-salt for 6 and 28 days on sodium pump activity, measured as ouabain-sensitive Rb+ uptake in tail arteries from these rats. The effect of an electrolytic lesion in the area of the anteroventral third cerebral ventricle (AV3V) before DOCA-salt treatment was investigated in relation to the ability of plasma to inhibit vascular...
متن کاملExtrarenal Na+ balance, volume, and blood pressure homeostasis in intact and ovariectomized deoxycorticosterone-acetate salt rats.
Water-free Na+ storage may buffer extracellular volume and mean arterial pressure (MAP) in spite of Na+ retention. We studied the relationship among internal Na+, K+, water balance, and MAP in Sprague-Dawley rats, with or without deoxycorticosterone-acetate (DOCA) salt, with or without ovariectomy (OVX). The rats were fed a low-salt (0.1% NaCl) or high-salt (8% NaCl) diet for 5 weeks. DOCA salt...
