The prehistory of biology preprints: A forgotten experiment from the 1960s
نویسنده
چکیده
In 1961, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) began to circulate biological preprints in a forgotten experiment called the Information Exchange Groups (IEGs). This system eventually attracted over 3,600 participants and saw the production of over 2,500 different documents, but by 1967, it was effectively shut down following the refusal of journals to accept articles that had been circulated as preprints. This article charts the rise and fall of the IEGs and explores the parallels with the 1990s and the biomedical preprint movement of today.

Obsidian artifacts is frequently used materials in prehistory and found widely in archaeological sites. Provenance studies of obsidian has been an issue of intense research and debate between archaeologists and geologists. Since different provenance studies has been carried out from 1960s up to 2015 in Anatolia and Caucasus but obsidian studies in Iran is in very early stage and consider as ter...

Plum pox or sharka, a viral disease caused by Plum pox virus (PPV), severely affects the production of Prunus species in Europe. The first evidence of sharka was reported in Iran in 2000 . Due to the economic impact of this disease on crop production, recent advances in the term of biology, epidemiology, and disease management are provided in this paper to assure awareness among growers and pr...
متن کاملThe forgotten role of methenamine to prevent recurrent urinary tract infection: urgency for reuse 100 years after discovery
In conclusion, UTI is a globally distributed disease with emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria; thus, new drug discovery or activation of previously used drugs is an urgent issue. Methenamine has been suggested as a beneficial agent for the UTI prevention as it works as a urinary antiseptic by safely producing formaldehyde to prevent bacterial growth while avoiding bacterial resistance...
