چکیده

The NJL model is formulated on the light cone. Using the 1/N expansion to solve the fermionic constraint, an effective 4-fermi la-grangian is derived. Pionic properties are investigated using this la-grangian, and the formal equivalence to the equal-time formulation is demonstrated. Two regularization schemes in terms of light-cone variables are discussed: An extension of the 'invariant mass cutoff scheme', and a transverse momentum cutoff scheme. It is shown that the first one is equivalent to the covariant 3-momentum cutoff (dispersion cutoff) scheme in the equal-time formulation. As an application the structure function of the pion is studied in both regularization schemes.

Pion Structure Function in the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio model

The pion structure function is studied in the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. We calculate the forward scattering amplitude of a virtual photon from a pion target in the Bjorken limit, and obtain valence quark distributions of the pion at the low energy hadronic scale, where the NJL model is supposed to work. The calculated distribution functions are evolved to the experimental momentum sca...

Quark distributions in the nucleon based on a relativistic 3-body approach to the NJL model

Quark light cone momentum distributions in the nucleon are calculated in a relativistic 3-body approach to the NJL model by using a simple ’static approximation’ for the Faddeev kernel. A method is presented which automatically satisfies the number and momentum sum rules, even in the regularized theory. In order to assess the sensitivity to the regularization scheme, two schemes which can be fo...

The spin structure of the pion is discussed by transforming the wave function for the pion in the naive quark model into a light-cone representation. It is shown that there are higher helicity (λ 1 + λ 2 = ±1) states in the full light-cone wave function for the pion besides the ordinary helicity (λ 1 + λ 2 = 0) component wave functions as a consequence from the Melosh rotation relating spin sta...

Light–Cone Quantization: Foundations and Applications

These lecture notes review the foundations and some applications of light– cone quantization. First I explain how to choose a time in special relativity. Inclusion of Poincaré invariance naturally leads to Dirac’s forms of relativistic dynamics. Among these, the front form, being the basis for light–cone quantization, is my main focus. I explain a few of its peculiar features such as boost and ...

Pion light-cone wave function and pion distribution amplitude in the Nambu–Jona-Lasinio model

∫ dk⊥Ψπ(x,~k⊥)k 2 ⊥ = 〈~k 2 ⊥〉 = −M〈ūu〉/f 2 π for the second moment of the pion light-cone wave function, where M is the constituent quark mass and fπ is the pion decay constant. After the QCD Gegenbauer evolution of the pion distribution amplitude good end-point behavior is recovered, and a satisfactory agreement with the analysis of the experimental data from CLEO is achieved. This allows us ...
