Gas chromatography problem solving and troubleshooting

چکیده
The peaks are not column bleed. Column bleed is a continuous stream of stationary phase degradation products eluting from the column. Column bleed is a component of the baseline and not a series of peaks. Column bleed increases with temperature, especially at temperatures near the column’s upper temperature limit. When temperature programming up to the upper temperature limit, a rise in the baseline at higher temperatures is the typical and most obvious sign of column bleed. Most capillary column stationary phases are based on siloxane polymers. Although there are other types of stationary phases, polysiloxanes are definitely the most common. Polysiloxanes can be described as having a repeating silicon–oxygen backbone substituted with various side groups (i.e., methyl, phenyl, and cyanopropyl). At higher temperatures these very long chain polymers degrade into smaller lengths of the same repeating units that can elute from the column. These degradation products and their fragments comprise the mass spectra taken along the baseline (i.e., not on a peak). Silicones are used in a large number of common household and consumer products. They are found in large amounts in many soaps, lotions, deodorants, pharmaceuticals, and similar products. Silicones are also used in lubricants, protective coatings, sealants, Journal of Chromatographic Science, Vol. 39, July 2001

Dialogue management for automatic troubleshooting and other problem-solving applications
This paper describes a dialogue management method suitable for automatic troubleshooting and other problem-solving applications. The method has a theoremproving flavor, in that it recursively decomposes tasks into sequences of sub-tasks and atomic actions. An explicit objective when designing the method was that it should be usable by other people than the designers themselves, notably IVR appl...

This study describes the generation of Web-based troubleshooting system for automotive refrigeration system using knowledge engineering approach over the Internet. The relevant technologies used in the system are discussed in detail. The aim of the proposed knowledge-based troubleshooting system (KBTS) is to integrate the troubleshooting process of automotive refrigeration system into a single ...
متن کاملTeaching Microprocessors through Troubleshooting Problem-Solving at Technical High Schools
The aim of this paper is to present an innovative teaching approach using a troubleshooting methodology in teaching and learning microprocessors by trainees at technical high schools. Moreover, this paper presents the evaluation of this methodology by electronics teachers who teach at technical high schools. In the beginning, the basic theoretical background about the troubleshooting problem-so...
متن کاملCognitive components of troubleshooting strategies
This study investigated the kinds of knowledge necessary to learn an important troubleshooting strategy, elimination. A total of 50 college-level students searched for the source of failures in simple digital networks. Production system modelling suggested that students using a common but simpler backtracking strategy would learn the more advanced elimination strategy if they applied certain do...
متن کاملKinetic formulation of a 2 2 hyperbolic system arising in gas chromatography
The PSA system commonly used in the context of gas-solid chromatography is reformulated as a single kinetic equation using an additional kinetic variable. A kinetic numerical scheme is built from this new formulation and its behavior is tested on solving the Riemann problem in different configurations leading to single or composite waves.
متن کاملComputer-Assisted Troubleshooting for Efficient Off-board Diagnosis
This licentiate thesis considers computer-assisted troubleshooting of complex products such asheavy trucks. The troubleshooting task is to find and repair all faulty components in a malfunc-tioning system. This is done by performing actions to gather more information regarding whichfaults there can be or to repair components that are suspected to be faulty. The expected cost of the<...
