چکیده

Aims. This work reports radiative transition rates and electron impact excitation rate coefficients for levels of the n= 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 configurations of Ca ii. Methods. The radiative data were computed using the Thomas-Fermi-Dirac central potential method in the frozen core approximation and includes the polarization interaction between the valence electron and the core using a model potential. This method allows for configuration interactions (CI) and relativistic effects in the Breit-Pauli formalism. Collision strengths in LS-coupling were calculated in the close coupling approximation with the R-matrix method. Then, fine structure collision strengths were obtained by means of the intermediate-coupling frame transformation (ICFT) method which accounts for spin-orbit coupling effects. Results. We present extensive comparisons with the most recent calculations and measurements for Ca ii as well as a comparison between the core polarization results and the " unpolarized " values. We find that core polarization affects the computed lifetimes by up to 20%. Our results are in very close agreement with recent measurements for the lifetimes of metastable levels. The present collision strengths were integrated over a Maxwellian distribution of electron energies and the resulting effective collision strengths are given for a wide range of temperatures. Our effective collision strengths for the resonance transitions are within ∼11% from previous values derived from experimental measurements, but disagree with latter computations using the distorted wave approximation.

Atomic Processes in Planetary Nebulae

Abstract. A hot central star illuminating the surrounding ionized H II region usually produces very rich atomic spectra resulting from basic atomic processes: photoionization, electron-ion recombination, boundbound radiative transitions, and collisional excitation of ions. Precise diagnostics of nebular spectra depend on accurate atomic parameters for these processes. Latest developments in the...

Ionization Structure and Spectra of Iron in Gaseous Nebulae

The emission spectra and the ionization structure of the low ionization stages of iron, Fe I–IV, in gaseous nebulae are studied. This work includes: (i) new atomic data: photoionization cross sections, total e-ion recombination rates, excitation collision strengths, and transition probabilities calculated under the Iron Project by the Ohio State atomic-astrophysics group; (ii) detailed study of...

ATOMIC DATA AND SPECTRAL MODEL FOR Fe II

We present extensive calculations of radiative transition rates and electron impact collision strengths for Fe II. The data sets involve 52 levels from the 3d, 3d4s, and d s 3 4 5 2 configurations. Computations of A-values are carried out with a combination of state-of-the-art multiconfiguration approaches, namely the relativistic Hartree–Fock, Thomas–Fermi–Dirac potential, and Dirac–Fock metho...

Photoionization, Recombination, and Radiative Transitions of Atoms and Ions

Physical properties such as temperature, density of stars and their chemical compositions can be obtained from detail analysis of their spectra at various wavelengths. Ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths are particularly important as the chromosphere surrounding a star is rich in UV radiation generated by collisional and radiative atomic processes, such as photoionization, electron-ion recombination a...

Atomic data from the Iron Project XLIV. Transition probabilities and line ratios for FeVI with fluorescent excitation in planetary nebulae

Relativistic atomic structure calculations for electric dipole (E1), electric quadrupole (E2) and magnetic dipole (M1) transition probabilities among the first 80 fine-structure levels of Fe VI, dominated by configurations 3d, 3d4s, and 3d4p, are carried out using the Breit-Pauli version of the code SUPERSTRUCTURE. Experimental energies are used to improve the accuracy of these transition proba...
