چکیده

Alcohol use is prevalent in trauma patients, with nearly 50% of admitted trauma patients having a positive blood alcohol concentration (BAC) upon admission [1,2]. This is generally considered to be any concentration greater than 0 mg/dl. One consideration when caring for patients who misuse alcohol is the risk of alcohol withdrawal. The alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) is due to the rapid removal of the depressant effects of alcohol on the central nervous system. AWS occurs when a patient who is physiologically dependent on alcohol ceases or severely reduces alcohol consumption [3-5]. Because the prevalence of alcohol use disorders in trauma patients is high, it is conceivable that their risk for AWS is also high and could complicate their hospitalization for injury. However, the incidence of AWS among trauma patients has not been previously prospectively evaluated.

Comparison of Alcohol Withdrawal Outcomes in Patients Treated with Benzodiazepines Alone versus Adjunctive Phenobarbital: a Retrospective Cohort Study

Background: For treatment of severe alcohol withdrawal syndrome, high dose benzodiazepines (BZDs) may cause delirium and over-sedation. Phenobarbital (PBT) is a long-acting barbiturate effective for the treatment of alcohol withdrawal. Given the potential benefits of PBT, we sought to investigate the effectiveness of PBT as adjunctive treatment for alcohol withdrawal. Methods: This was a retros...

In Vitro Maturation of Oocytes in Women at Risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome-A Prospective Multicenter Cohort Study

Objective In vitro maturation (IVM) is an artificial reproductive technology in which immature oocytes are harvested from the ovaries and subsequently matured in vitro. IVM does not require ovarian hyperstimulation and thus the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is avoided. In this multicenter prospective cohort study we assessed the live birth rate per initiated in vitro maturati...
