Business Cycle Phenomena in Overlapping Generations Economies with Stochastic Production

چکیده
This paper analyzes economic uctuations in an overlapping generations economy with productive capital in which random shocks in aggregate productivity are present. Under speci c assumptions we obtain an explicit solution of the model. Applying random dynamical systems theory, we can prove that the long-run behavior of the economy is uniquely described by an asymptotically stable random xed point. The statistical properties of the aggregates output, consumption, capital stock, and real wage are investigated numerically. We nd that our arti cial economy displays several real world business cycle phenomena.

Money Growth Rules in an Emerging Small Open Economy with an informal sector
This paper is concerned with the saddle-path stability of monetary growth rules in a two-country two-sector dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model. Alongside standard features of emerging economies, such as a combination of producer and local currency pricing for exports, fiscal dominance and oil exports, this model also incorporates informal labour and production sectors and examines how...
متن کاملCARESS Working Paper 00-09 TIME AND UNCERTAINTY IN OVERLAPPING GENERATIONS ECONOMIES
This paper shows the general reversibility of every perfect foresight equilibrium of an overlapping generations economy. It then shows and characterizes the existence of reversible sunspot equilibria in these economies as well, which seems to be at odds with our intuition about the irreversibility of a tree of events. Although the paper establishes also that such reversible stochastic equilibri...
متن کاملRecursive equilibrium in stochastic OLG economies∗
We prove generic existence of recursive equilibrium for overlapping generations economies with uncertainty. Generic here means in a residual set of utilities and endowments. The result holds provided there is sufficient intragenerational household heterogeneity.

I show how to construct a stochastic long-lived overlapping generations model, based on a non-stochastic model developed by Olivier Blanchard [2] and Philippe Weil [14], that nests the RBC model as a special case. My innovation over previous work is to add an aggregate stochastic shock. I provide three different calibrations of the model. One mimics the RBC model and the other two are heterogen...

We introduce aggregate uncertainty and complete markets into Blanchard’s (1985) perpetual youth model. We show how to construct a simple formula for the pricing kernel in terms of observable aggregate variables. We study a pure trade version of our model and we show it behaves much like the two-period overlapping generations model. Our methods are easily generalized to economies with production...
