Examining Customer - Side Engineering Practices for Robotic Systems , CSER 2008 DeWitt

چکیده
This reports on the results of a survey conducted on engineers involved in the acquisition of robotic systems from academic, government, and industrial sectors. Respondents indicated their perception of the importance and effectiveness of various types of engineering practices that were employed by these customers in support of their most recent robotic system acquisition. The survey focused on engineering practices from the areas of requirements development, technical management, verification, and validation. Examination of how the opinions and effectiveness of the engineers change over successive experiences give us an indication of what classes of engineering methods are currently being addressed or ignored during the education of the engineers. Ultimately, by examining the responses, we can conclude some areas of engineering that engineers still lack routinely effective methods to help them acquire the right robot to fulfill the organization's need.

Violent Agreement Amongst Systems and Software Engineers , CSER 2008
Recent discussions of how to integrate systems and software engineers begs the question to define the difference between these two disciplines. The disciplines of electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering do not seem to be engaged in this discussion. By performing some basic lexical analysis between the published bodies of knowledge, we observe that software engineers and systems engineers ...
متن کاملA New Solution for the Cyclic Multiple-Part Type Three-Machine Robotic Cell Problem based on the Particle Swarm Meta-heuristic
In this paper, we develop a new mathematical model for a cyclic multiple-part type threemachine robotic cell problem. In this robotic cell a robot is used for material handling. The objective is finding a part sequence to minimize the cycle time (i.e.; maximize the throughput) with assumption of known robot movement. The developed model is based on Petri nets and provides a new method to calcul...
متن کاملModel-Based System Integration (MBSI) - Key Attributes of MBSE from the System Integrator's Perspective
Many system developments fail at the integration and qualification (I&Q) phases in the development and acquisition cycle. How can we, as Systems Engineers (SE), navigate the uncertainty and risk of system development to ensure I&Q success? One solution is applying significant influence of the system integrator (SI) member of the SE team at the very beginning of system design. If this is a solut...
متن کاملIntroduction to Information Visualization (InfoVis) Techniques for Model-Based Systems Engineering
One of the barriers to the success of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) efforts is realizing effective communication of the output diagrams—i.e., modeling views—that address the concerns of, and inform, a broad spectrum of customer stakeholders. Abstracting and implementing the visual presentation of views—as products of very complex system models—is nearly as important to the effectivenes...
متن کاملRepresenting Advances in Systems Engineering by Using an Electronic Process Guide
Systems Engineering is a discipline that never stops growing. Systems Engineers are just like students or life-long learners who have to keep themselves up to date with new best propositions. With recent additions of novel concepts in systems engineering such as Social Networking concepts, Value-Based Requirements Prioritization, and Program Model, it is often challenging to translate these con...
