Time–Frequency Synchronization in Filtered Multitone Modulation Based Systems

In this paper we consider the problem of acquiring time and frequency synchronization in a filtered multitone (FMT) modulated system. An FMT based system differs from the popular OFDM system in the deployment of sub–channel shaping filters. Although the synchronization problem in OFDM is well understood, in an FMT system it presents several challenges. A number of techniques for the offsets correction are proposed. The transmission filter bank proprieties are exploited in the time domain before the demodulator. The use of special training symbol is also discussed.
