Basic Knowledge of Bone Grafting
نویسنده
چکیده
Bone generally has the ability to regenerate completely but requires a very small fracture space or some sort of scaffold to do so. Bone grafts may be autogous (bone harvested from the patient’s own body, often from iliac crest), allograft (cadaveric bone usually obtained from a bone bank), or synthetic (often made of hydroxyapatite or other naturally occurring and biocompatible substances) with similar mechanical properties to bone. Most bone grafts are expexted to be reabsorbed and replaced as the natural bone heals over a few month’s time.

Maxillary alveolar bone grafting: the role of Platelet-rich plasma (PRF)
Introduction: Gold standard for alveolar cleft bone grafting is autogenous bone. Advantage of adding the growth factors to the bone is established, so adding PRF to the autogenous bone may have beneficial effects. Methods: Platelet-rich plasma admixed with autogenous bone and as a biologic membrane over the bone grafted alveolar cleft was used. Results: Autogenous bone in all (four cases...

متن کاملBone Grafting Substitutes in Dentistry: General Criteria for Proper Selection and Successful Application
Restoration of bone defects in the oral cavity is one of the major challenges for dental surgeon. A common example is handling of bone defect after simple tooth extraction for ridge preservation. Often delivering prosthodontic and implant treatments face difficulties during oral rehabilitations in bone defect site. Bone defect site needs to be restored in such a way to support further treatment...
متن کاملThe Role of Lingual Bone Grafting in the Treatment of Displaced Edentulous Mandibular Fracture with Severe Atrophy
Introduction: Treatment of edentulous atrophic mandible with severe atrophy is a challenge based on local conditions and systemic diseases confronted by the age group affected. If bone grafting is indicated, it is often used in lateral or inferior aspects of the mandible. Case Report: A 70-year-old male with a unilateral fracture of the atrophied left mandibular body was managed by lingual bon...
متن کاملRadiographic comparison of the repaired bone in maxillary alveolar cleft of dog by tissue engineering and autogenous bone grafting techniques
BACKGROUND: Dental disease, trauma and maxillofacial surgeries can cause alveolar bone defects. Among different kinds of treatment, autogenous bone grafts is accepted as a golden standard. On the other hand, because of limitation of treatment with autogenous bone grafts, osteogenic cells derived from stem cells are suggested. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to compare the mean density of ...
