Automatic Template Instantiation in DIGITAL C++
نویسندگان
چکیده
Vol. 10 No. 1 1998 The template facility within the C++ language allows the user to provide a template for a class or function and then apply specific arguments to the template to specify a type or function. The process of applying arguments to a template, referred to as template instantiation, causes specific code to be generated to implement the functions and static data members of the instantiated template as needed by the program. Automatic template instantiation relieves the user of determining which template entities need to be instantiated and where they should be instantiated. In this paper, we review the C++ template facility and describe approaches to implementing automatic template instantiation. We follow that with a discussion of the facilities, rationale, and experience of the DIGITAL C++ automatic template instantiation support. We then describe the design of the DIGITAL C++ version 6.0 automatic template instantiation facility and indicate areas to be explored for further improvement.

متن کامل\expression Templates" in Java
Template techniques in C++ allow a modest degree of gen-erative programming: creating specialized code for specialized problems. This use of templates has been controversial; indeed, one of the oft-cited reasons for migrating to Java is that it provides a simpler language, free of complexities such as templates. The essence of generative programming in C++ is not templates { the language featur...
متن کاملTemplate metaprogramming techniques for concept-based specialization
In generic programming, software components are parameterized on types. When available, a static specialization mechanism allows selecting, for a given set of parameters, a more suitable version of a generic component than its primary version. The normal C++ template specialization mechanism is based on the type pattern of the parameters, which is not always the best way to guide the specializa...
متن کاملRuntime Template Instantiation for C++
Performance, genericity and flexibility are three valuable qualities for scientific environments that tend to be antagonistic. C++ provides excellent support for both performances and genericity thanks to its support for (class and function) templates. However, a C++ templated library can hardly be qualified as flexible: data of unexpected types cannot enter the system, which hinders user inter...
متن کاملUsing Protégé for Automatic Ontology Instantiation
This paper gives an overview on the use of Protégé in the Artequakt system, which integrated Protégé with a set of natural language tools to automatically extract knowledge about artists from web documents and instantiate a given ontology. Protégé was also linked to structured templates that generate documents from the knowledge fragments it maintains.
