چکیده

We propose an Inverse Compton Scattering (ICS) experiment, which will investigate nonlinear properties of the scattering utilizing the terawatt CO2 laser system with various polarizations in Neptune Laboratory at UCLA. When the normalized amplitude of the vector potential a0 is larger than unity the scattering occurs in the nonlinear region; therefore, higher harmonics are also produced. We present a calculation tool for the Double Differential Spectrum (DDS) distribution and total number of photons produced for both head-on and 90o scattering. We decided to do the experiment at 90o to avoid complications due to strong diffraction of the incoming laser. We discuss the electron and laser beam parameters for the experiment.

Status of the Polarized Nonlinear Inverse Compton Scattering Experiment at UCLA

An Inverse Compton Scattering (ICS) experiment investigating the polarized harmonic production in the nonlinear regime has begun which will utilize the existing terawatt CO2 laser system and 15 MeV photoinjector in the Neptune Laboratory at UCLA. A major motivation for a source of high brightness polarized x-rays is the production of polarized positrons for use in future linear collider experim...

Unfolding X-ray spectrum in the diagnostic range using the Monte Carlo Code MCNP5

Introduction: Unfolding X-ray spectrum is a powerful tool for quality control of X-ray tubes. Generally, the acquisition of the X-ray spectrum in diagnostic radiology departments is complicated and difficult due to high photon flux. Measurement of x ray spectra using radiation detectors could not be performed accurately, because of the pulse pile up. Therefore, indirect methods...

An iterative method to estimate x-ray attenuation coefficients in computed tomography

Introduction: The basis of image formation in Computed Tomography (CT) lies in the x-ray linear attenuation coefficient of the scanned material. Compton scattering and photoelectric effect are the dominant interactions of the x-ray photons with the subject, in the range of diagnostic radiology. These two coefficients are important in tissue characterization by Dual-Energy CT (D...

Inverse Compton X-ray Flare from GRB Reverse Shock

We study synchrotron self-inverse Compton radiation from a reverse-shocked fireball. If the inverse Compton process dominates the cooling of shocked electrons, an X-ray flare produced by the first order Compton scattering would emerge in the very early afterglow phase, with the bulk of the shock energy radiated in the second order scattering component at 10-100 MeV. The dominance of inverse Com...

Obserbation of High Intensity X-rays in Inverse Compton Scattering Experiment

We report the first results of high intensity x-ray generation using Inverse Laser Compton scattering. This experiment was carried out by a US-Japan collaboration at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) in September 1999.The ATF is an accelerator and beam physics user facility. The 3.5 ps x-ray pulse at 6.5 keV, containing ~107 x-ray photons was generated by ...
