چکیده

This paper develops a simple model to examine the interaction between partner choice and individual behavior in games of coordination. An important ingredient of our approach is the way we model partner choice: we suppose that a player can establish ties with other players by unilaterally investing in costly pairwise links. In this context, individual efforts to balance the costs and benefits of links are shown to lead to a unique equilibrium interaction architecture. The dynamics of network formation, however, has powerful effects on individual behavior: if costs of forming links are below a certain threshold then players coordinate on the risk-dominant action, while if costs are above this threshold then they coordinate on the efficient action. These findings are robust to modifications in the link formation process, different specifications of link formation costs, alternative models of mutations as well as the possibility of interaction among indirectly connected players.  2004 Elsevier Inc. Learning, Network Formation and Coordination

In many economic and social contexts, individuals can undertake a transaction only if they are `linked' or related to each other. We take the view that these links are costly, in the sense that it takes e ort and resources to create and maintain them. The link formation decisions of the players de ne a network of social interaction. We study the incentives of individuals to form links and the e...

Optimal Coordination of Distance and Directional Overcurrent Relays Considering Different Network Topologies

Most studies in relay coordination have focused solely on coordination of overcurrent relays while distance relays are used as the main protection of transmission lines. Since, simultaneous coordination of these two types of relays can provide a better protection, in this paper, a new approach is proposed for simultaneous coordination of distance and directional overcurrent relays (D&DOCRs). Al...

Constrained interactions and social coordination

We consider a co-evolutionary model of social coordination and network formation where agents may decide on an action in a 2 × 2 coordination game and on whom to establish costly links to. We find that a payoff dominant convention is selected for a wider parameter range when agents may only support a limited number of links as compared to a scenario where agents are not constrained in their lin...

Network formation , cost - sharing and anti - coordination ∗ Dunia López - Pintado

This paper presents a non-cooperative model of network formation where agents link to play anti-coordination games. Links are costly but, unlike in standard one-sided models, the cost is shared between the two players involved in a link. We show that the set of Nash equilibria of the resulting social game shrinks as the shares of the link cost are more equal. In the extreme case in which each a...
