چکیده
A recent survey of the urinary amino-acids of various animals (Datta & Harris, 1951, 1953) has shown taurine to be present in the urine of some species, e.g. the mouse, rat and dog, but absent from others, e.g. the guinea-pig, cow and rabbit; the occurrence of taurine in cat's urine is irregular. Some time ago an enzyme was described that liberates carbon dioxide from L-cysteic acid under anaerobic conditions (Blaschko, 1942). This enzyme occurs in the liver of the dog and the rat, but it has not been found in some other species, e.g. the cat. The product of the decarboxylation had not been identified, but the amount of carbon dioxide formed-one mole of CO, for one mole of L-cysteic acid addedsuggested that it was taurine:

LIVER DAMAGE AND URINARY EXCRETION OF SULFATE IN RATS FED l-CYSTINE, dl-METHIONINE, AND CYSTEIC ACID
1. Rats fed l-cystine at excessive levels excrete large amounts of sulfate sulfur in the urine and develop liver necrosis and cirrhosis. 2. Rats fed dl-methionine at excessive levels excrete large amounts of sulfate sulfur, but do not develop liver necrosis and cirrhosis. 3. Rats fed cysteic acid at high levels excrete relatively small amounts of sulfate, but do develop liver necrosis and cirrh...
متن کاملEffects of branched-chain amino acid deficiency in diets on growth factors, pancreatic enzymes activity and whole body proximate of Sobaity seabream juvenile (Sparidentex hasta)
On the current study the effects of reducing branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) in diets of Sobaity sea bream in a constant level (40%) on growth and nutritional indices, pancreatic enzymes activity, whole body chemical proximate and amino acids, was assessed. This experiment was conducted in Marine Fish Research Station of Imam Khomeini harbor during July and August of 2014. For these purposes,...
متن کاملEffects of Some Amino Acids and Organic Acids on Enzymatic Activity and Longevity of Dianthus caryophyllus cv. Tessino at Pre-Harvest Stage
Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L.) is one of the most important cut flowers in the world. This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of pre-harvest application of some amino acids and organic acids on enzymatic traits and longevity of carnation flowers (Dianthus caryophyllus cv. Tessino) based on completely randomized design with 13 treatments and three...
متن کاملEFFECTS OF EXCESS DIETARY CYSTEIC ACID, dl-METHIONINE, AND TAURINE ON THE RAT LIVER
1. Cysteic acid fed to albino rats as 12.5 to 15 per cent of the McCollum stock diet caused portal necrosis and cirrhosis of the liver within 2 weeks. Concentrations of cysteic acid of 6.25 per cent or less in the diet produced no liver lesions within 2 weeks. 2.dl-Methionine fed as 6.4 to 12.4 per cent of the McCollum stock diet or of a low protein, low fat diet, resulted in severe atrophy of ...
متن کاملPartial Cloning and Nucleotide Sequencing of Glutamate Decarboxylase Gene Isoform 65 from Human Brain
Background: Gamma -aminobutyric acid (GABA), a non-protein amino acid acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system of mammalians. The glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) is responsible for the conversion of L-glutamate to GABA. The human brain has two isoforms of this enzyme, GAD65 and GAD67 that differ in molecular weight, amino acid sequence, antigenicity, cellular location ...
