چکیده

Metastases to the spine resulting in spinal neuropathy occur commonly _ The vast majority involve the vertebrae and the epidural spaces. Intradural metastases, either extraor intra-medullary arising from a primary lesion outside of the central nervous system are seldom encountered. Another rare form of metastatic disease to the spinal central nervous system is leptomeningeal carcinomatosis. This type of metastasis is characterized by diffuse tumor infiltration of the pia-arachnoid of the spinal cord and of the nerve roots [1]. We recently observed a case with pachymeningeal carcinomatosis in the cervical region with diffuse sheetlike tumor infiltration of the dura. To our knowledge, this form of metastasis has not been previously reported.

Spinal leptomeningeal infiltration by systemic cancer: myelographic features.

Five cases of spinal leptomeningeal infiltration by systemic cancer are presented and myelographic features are discussed with a review of the literature. Common characteristic features are parallel longitudinal striations due to thickened nerve roots in the cauda equina and bizarre irregular filling defects with varying degrees of blocks, resembling arachnoiditis. Another pattern described in ...

Pachymeningeal metastasis from squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix with involvement of the optic nerve: case report and review of the literature

This report describes the case of a 50-year-old woman with carcinomatous meningitis from squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix. Ultrasound showed an irregular hypoechoic mass in the cervix. Contrast enhanced computed tomography imaging revealed intense linear enhancement along the falx cerebri suggestive of pachymeningeal metastasis with involvement of the optic nerve. To our knowledge ...

Spinal meningeal diverticula in spontaneous intracranial hypotension: analysis of prevalence and myelographic appearance.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Spinal meningeal diverticula have been implicated in the pathogenesis of spontaneous intracranial hypotension and have been proposed as both diagnostic features of and therapeutic targets for the condition. We compared the prevalence and myelographic appearance of spinal diverticula in patients with SIH and healthy controls. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients satisfying the...

MR of cranial and spinal meningeal carcinomatosis: comparison with CT and myelography.

Thirty-nine patients with histologically proved primary neoplasms, focal neurologic deficits, and positive CSF cytology were evaluated by enhanced cranial CT and MR, or complete myelography and MR of the spine. Intracranial abnormalities were noted on CT in 56% of cases and included abnormal enhancement of subarachnoid space and ventricular walls, ventricular dilatation, obliteration of cortica...

Cord shape and measurements in cervical spondylotic myelopathy and radiculopathy.

A combined clinical myelographic and computed myelographic study was performed in 30 patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy; computed myelography was also performed in 16 control patients. Good correlation was found between degree of deformity of cross-sectional shapes of the cord and the outcome of surgery, and measurements of anteroposterior diameter and area of the cord seemed helpful...
