Atypical manifestations of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms.

چکیده
The rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm is a catastrophic event with a uniformly fatal outcome if untreated. The triad of abdominal and/or back pain, a pulsatile abdominal mass, and hypotension, is said to be diagnostic. However, this triad may not be present in its entirety, or when present may not be recognized, as one of the components predominates. Clinical diagnosis is thus 'not infrequently missed in the emergency rooms of even the most prestigious medical centers." To add to this, difficulties in diagnosis may arise owing either to an impalpable aneurysm or to atypical presentations.2'3 The clinical diagnosis is often difficult and not infrequently missed. Consequently, appropriate treatment in the form of expeditious laparotomy, rapid control of the proximal aorta and graft replacement ofthe aneurysmal aorta is not achieved leading to possibly avoidable mortality. The purpose of this report is to discuss less common presentations of ruptured aneurysms of the abdominal aorta, concentrating on the clinical aspects.

Abstract Background: Renal insufficiency is a potential complication after infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm repair and is a significant risk factor for postoperative mortality and morbidity. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of this risk factor, before and during operation. Methods: In this prospective study, between 2003 and 2006, 45 patients underwent repair of an infrarena...

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to describe our early experience in the treatment of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms with bifurcated endografts. We report on our initial twelve-month experience using this approach. METHODS Clinical data on patients with ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms treated at a single tertiary center in Brazil were prospectively recorded. The eligibility for en...

An analysis based upon necropsy figures has been made of the frequency of deaths with dissecting aneurysms and ruptured fusiform or saccular aortic aneurysms. More deaths from these conditions were found at necropsies conducted on people dying suddenly in the community than in those dying in hospital. Dissecting aneurysms were nearly all found to involve the thoracic segment of the aorta and we...
