Onsager relations and hydrodynamic balance equations.

چکیده
In this paper we clarify the role of heat flux in the hydrodynamic balance equations, facilitating the formulation of an Onsager relation within the framework of this theory. Previously thought to be unobtainable from the present form of the theory [X. (1988)], our verification of the Onsager relation for linear particle and heat flux currents driven by electric fields and temperature gradients resolves a puzzling issue of long standing. Our results show that, for any temperature, when electron density is sufficiently high, the linear predictions of balance equation theory exactly satisfy the Onsager relation. The condition of high density is consonant with the requirement of strong electron-electron interactions for the validity of the Lei-Ting balance equations. Our results support the validity of this theory for a weakly nonuniform system. We also discuss a possible method of extending this theory to a system further removed from thermal equilibrium.

Onsager Relations and Hydrodynamic Balance Equations in 2D Quantum Wells
In this letter we clarify the role of heat flux in the hydrodynamic balance equations in 2D quantum wells, facilitating the formulation of an Onsager relation within the framework of this theory. We find that the Onsager relation is satisfied within the framework of the 2D hydrodynamic balance equation transport theory at sufficiently high density. The condition of high density is consonant wit...
متن کاملA scaling approach to the derivation of hydrodynamic boundary conditions
We show hydrodynamic boundary conditions to be the inherent consequence of the Onsager principle of minimum energy dissipation, provided the relevant effects of the wall potential appear within a thin fluid layer next to the solid wall, denoted the surface layer. The condition that the effect of the surface layer on the bulk hydrodynamics must be independent of its thickness h is shown to imply...
متن کاملOnsager Relations and Hydrodynamic Transport in a Submicron Silicon Diode
An Extended hydrodynamic model describing carrier transport in semiconductor devices is checked with the Onsager Reciprocity Principle, which is one of the fundamental principles of Linear Irreversible Thermodynamic. Monte Carlo simulations for a one-dimensional n + ? n ? n + silicon diode are shown.
متن کاملOnsager Relations and Eulerian Hydrodynamic Limit for Systems with Several Conservation Laws
We present the derivation of the hydrodynamic limit under Eulerian scaling for a general class of one-dimensional interacting particle systems with two or more conservation laws. Following Yau’s relative entropy method it turns out that in case of more than one conservation laws, in order that the system exhibit hydrodynamic behaviour, some particular identities reminiscent of Onsager’s recipro...
متن کاملHydrodynamics and Fluctuations Outside of Local Equilibrium: Driven Diffusive Systems
We derive hydrodynamic equations for systems not in local thermodynamic equilibrium, that is, where the local stationary measures are "non-Gibbsian" and do not satisfy detailed balance with respect to the microscopic dynamics. As a main example we consider the driven diffusive systems (DDS), such as electrical conductors in an applied field with diffusion of charge carriers. In such systems, th...
