چکیده

This paper proposes an approach to constructing a 3-D paper-m ad e ob ject from a crease pattern, a set of line segm ents (creases) on a sheet of paper w hich is usually prod uced w hen a paper-m ad e ob ject such as origam i is unfold ed . F irst, a coord inate transform ation m ethod from 2 -D crease patterns to 3-D space is proposed . S ince faces (form ed b y the creases) m ore than tw o are lik ely transform ed onto the sam e plane in 3-D space, it is necessary to d ispose these faces consistently . Therefore, second , a m ethod for analy z ing positional relationships of the ov erlapping faces is proposed . F inally , w e show som e ex am ples of 3-D ob jects constructed b y our m ethod . The proposed m ethod is useful for pack aging and architectural m od eling. 1 I n tro d u ctio n O r ig am i is a f o r m o f v is u al and s c u lp tu ral rep res entatio n th at is d efi ned p r im arily by th e fo ld ing o f th e m ed iu m (u s u ally p ap er) . Construction of 3-D Virtual Origami Models from Sketches

A modern technique of designing origami has been established for several decades. This technique enables people to constitute a crease pattern by drawing lines (creases) on a sheet of paper based on mathematical theories, and to create realistic origami works. However, design of the crease patterns using this technique requires expertise. Furthermore, it is difficult to fold the origami model f...

Box Pleating is Hard

In their seminal 1996 paper, Bern and Hayes initiated investigation into the computational complexity of origami [3]. They proved that it is NP-hard to determine whether a given general crease pattern can be folded flat, when the creases have or have not been assigned crease directions (mountain fold or valley fold). Since that time, there has been considerable work in analyzing the computation...

Origami Diagrams and 3D Animation from Flat-Foldable Crease Patterns Sequences

Origami is the art of folding paper. It is a simple way of constructing geometric shapes from a single sheet of paper without using any cuts. There are two usual forms to document an origami model; diagrams and crease patterns. Diagrams are the step-by-step sequences that can be found in traditional origami books while crease pattern is the pattern of creases left on the paper after folding an ...

When Can You Fold a Map?

We explore the following problem: given a collection of creases on a piece of paper, each assigned a folding direction of mountain or valley, is there a flat folding by a sequence of simple folds? There are several models of simple folds; the simplest one-layer simple fold rotates a portion of paper about a crease in the paper by ±180◦. We first consider the analogous questions in one dimension...

ایجاد تصویر سه بعدی با استفاده از سیستم های فراصوت دو بعدی معمولی

Ultrasound imaging is one of the common methods in medical diagnostic    systems. There are many artifacts in a two dimentional image. Three dimentional    imaging can be used for better interpretation and perception of an image. Since    1969 many attemps have been made in this regards, and research continues all    over the world. The main goal in...

Unfolding Simple Folds from Crease Patterns

Traditionally, the folding process of origami was transmitted orally and visually by directly showing the folded paper. However, throughout history, attempts have been made to register instructions of particular origami models. Among all types of “written origami," only two are frequently used by contemporary origami artists. They are commonly referenced as origami diagrams and crease patterns....
