A Tool for Staging Mixed-initiative Dialogs

چکیده
We discuss and demonstrate a tool for prototyping dialog-based systems that, given a high-level specification of a human-computer dialog, stages the dialog for interactive use. The tool enables a dialog designer to evaluate a variety of dialogs without having to program each individual dialog, and serves as a proofof-concept for our approach to mixed-initiative dialog modeling and implementation from a programming language-based perspective.

The Staging Transformation Approach to Mixing Initiative
Mixed-initiative interaction is an important facet of many conversational interfaces, flexible planning architectures, intelligent tutoring systems, and interactive information retrieval systems. Software systems for mixed-initiative interaction must enable us to both operationalize the mixing of initiative (i.e., support the creation of practical dialogs) and to reason in real-time about how a...

We present DialogXML – a markup language approach to specifying and realizing mixed-initiative web dialogs on mobile devices. By capturing the functional structure of the dialog independent of the modalities used to realize it, DialogXML facilitates the implementation of web interfaces that integrate hyperlink and speech modes of interaction. It enables the creation of websites that adapt to th...

Specifying and implementing flexible human-computer dialogs, such as those used in ATMs, airport and train kiosks, and apps for smart phones and similar devices, is challenging because of the numerous and varied directions in which each user might steer a dialog, all of which must be captured in a specification and implementation of it. The purpose of this research is to improve dialog specific...

We show that partial evaluation can be usefully viewed as a programming model for realizing mixed-initiative functionality in interactive applications. Mixed-initiative interaction between two participants is one where the parties can take turns at any time to change and steer the flow of interaction. We concentrate on the facet of mixed-initiative referred to as ‘unsolicited reporting’ and dem...
متن کاملInterdependencies among Dialog Acts, Task Goals and Discourse Inheritance in Mixed-Initiative Dialogs
This paper describes a study of the interdependencies among dialog acts, task goals and discourse inheritance in mixed-initiative dialogs in the restaurants domain. Our study is based on 199 dialogs, with disjoint training (169 dialogs) and test sets (30 dialogs). Training set is annotated manually in terms of task goals and dialog acts and tagged automatically in terms of semantic and syntacti...
