Extensible Wireless Mesh Network Software Testbed

چکیده
Wireless communication networks are relatively inexpensive to deploy, easy to install, and offer high flexibility over wired communication networks. This is why wireless communication is a popular choice of communication for Local and Wide Area Networks (LANs/MANs), termed Wireless LAN/MAN (WLAN/WMAN). Efficient mechanisms are needed to ensure an acceptable level of wireless communication performance. These mechanisms involve shared medium access and Call/Connection Admission Control (CAC) schemes, as well as routing and security protocols. Performance analysis is key to evaluating the performance of a network operating under these mechanisms and helps distinguish between schemes and protocols better suited for some given network. To evaluate the performance of these networks operating under various schemes or protocols, experiments are done. Three scientific approaches to obtaining performance metrics we consider are

CentMesh: Modular and Extensible Wireless Mesh Network Testbed
In this paper, we present the design of our wireless mesh network testbed (CentMesh) which facilitates experimentation as a service. CentMesh differs from other testbeds in terms of its modular, flexible and extensible design. The CentMesh software suite provides a modular programming library using which users can implement their own modules (such as routing, scheduling etc.) and can plug them ...
متن کاملThe DES-Framework
For more than two decades many different algorithms and protocols for Wireless Multi-Hop Networks (WMN) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) have become subject to research. The most common way to study these networks was based on simulations, although currently there is a trend towards testbed-based research. While some characteristics of these networks are hard to model in simulation environmen...
متن کاملAn Extensible Software Testbed for Wireless Mesh Networks
Modelling amorphous wireless networks in order to predict the performance and Quality of Service (QoS) has become very important as these networks become more ubiquitous. The need for multi-media workloads has stressed the importance of the ability to predict QoS even further. Most of the research to date focusses on the performance modelling of the individual IEEE802.11 (WiFi) and IEEE802.16 (...

Due to their easy-to-deploy and self-healing features, WMNs (Wireless Mesh Networks) are emerging as a new promising technology with a rich set of applications. While the standardization of this new technology is still in progress, its main traits are already set in the IEEE 802.11s standard: WMN architecture and MAC Routing. WMNs are attracting considerable research in Academia (and industry a...
متن کاملCharacterizing User Behavior and Network Load on a Large-Scale Wireless Mesh Network
Wireless mesh networks represent a promising paradigm to provide a scalable infrastructure for Internet access in metropolitan areas. In this paper, a large-scale wireless mesh testbed deployed in three cities in the Trentino region is described and experimentation results obtained from the public use of the testbed are reported and analyzed. The large-scale of the deployment and high number of...
