چکیده

This study examines how land-use errors from the Land Transformation Model (LTM) propagate through to climate as simulated by the Regional Atmospheric Model System (RAMS). The authors conducted five simulations of regional climate over East Africa: one using observed land cover/land use (LULC) and four utilizing LTM-derived LULC. The study examined how quantifiable errors generated by the LTM impact typical land– climate variables: precipitation, land surface temperature, air temperature, soil moisture, and latent heat flux. Error propagation was not evident when domain averages for the land–climate variables of the yearlong simulation were examined. * Corresponding author address: Bryan Pijanowski, Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, IN 47906. Evaluating the performance of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) in simulating temperature variable in Ahwaz and Abadan stations

Climate changes caused by global warming has presented challenges to human society. Studying the Changes of climate variables in the future decades by using output data’s of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) is a way of perusing climate fluctuation in a region. In this study, the focus is on the AOGCM proceeds in simulating of variable temperature in Ahwaz and Abadan stations. ...

A coupled atmosphere and multi-layer land surface model for improving heavy rainfall simulation

Papers published in Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Discussions are under open-access review for the journal Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Abstract A multi-layer land surface model (SOLVEG) is dynamically coupled to the non-hydrostatic atmospheric model (MM5) in order to represent better spatial variations and changes in land surface characteristics compared with the land surface para...

Simulation Analysis of Error Propagation on Land Cover Change Maps: A Comparison of Contextual and Non-contextual Models

The use of land cover change map is subject to error propagation from multi-temporal land cover classification maps. Understanding the factors determining error propagation to land-cover change maps helps to select appropriate classification models and characterize the associated uncertainties. In this paper, we presented a simulation analysis on the rates of error propagation for both non-cont...

Evaluating of VIC-3L Land Surface Model for Simulation of Stream Flow of Gharesou watershed

Land-surface models are widely used to simulate and predict the movement of momentum, energy, and matter between the biosphere and the atmosphere at local, regional and global scales. In this study, in order to evaluate the performance of this model in daily simulation of discharge in Gharesou watershed, using a spatial resolution of 0.125 degrees, satellite imagery and global databases to prov...

Diagnosing atmosphere-ocean general circulation model errors relevant to the terrestrial biosphere using the Köppen climate classification

[1] Coupled atmosphere-ocean-land-sea ice climate models (AOGCMs) are often tuned using physical variables like temperature and precipitation with the goal of minimizing properties such as the root-mean-square error. As the community moves towards modeling the earth system, it is important to note that not all biases have equivalent impacts on biology. Bioclimatic classification systems provide...
