cantly different (p<00001). Visual estimation of pupil size is accurate to about 0-2 mm' so detecting anisocoria of 0-5 mm or more presents no clinical difficulty. For practical purposes, therefore, miosis in the affected eye of a patient with unilateral red eye may indicate serious eye disease. We found that when an inflamed eye shows 0 5 mm or more miosis relative to the unaffected eye the probability of serious eye disease is nine times greater than that of mild disease (relative risk, with 95% confidence interval 5 to 18, logit method). Though relative miosis is more common in serious eye disease, a dilated pupil does not necessarily indicate an innocuous condition-for example, acute angle closure glaucoma may present as an inflamed eye with a dilated pupil.

Unilateral orchidectomy in donkey (Equus asinus): Evaluation of different surgical techniques, histological and morphological changes on remaining testis
Unilateral orchidectomy (UO) is required when further breeding potential is important. It is sometimes necessary to remove a single testis in a matured stallion for therapeutic reasons. In this study, twelve donkeys were used to evaluate three techniques of unilateral castration, histological and morphological changes on the remaining testis. Results of the study showed that each of the surgica...

متن کاملThe amount of spermatic cord rotation magnifies the time-related orchidectomy risk in Intravaginal testicular torsion
PURPOSE To investigate the roles of age, testicular rotation and time in the surgical outcome of intravaginal testicular torsion (iTT). PATIENTS AND METHODS We retrieved the records of all iTT patients treated in our unit from January 2012 to January 2014. Explanatory variables were: age (years); presentation delay (PrD, time between symptoms and hospitalization); surgical delay (SurgD, time ...
متن کاملCarcinoma in situ testis, the progenitor of testicular germ cell tumours: a clinical review.
Testicular germ cell tumours (TGCT), including seminomas, embryonal carcinomas, teratomas and yolk sac tumours, have a common precursor, the carcinoma in situ (CIS) cell. Recent gene expression studies displaying close similarity of CIS cells to embryonic stem cells support the longstanding theory that CIS most likely originates in utero from fetal gonocytes. The clinical association between th...
متن کاملPYOGENIC LIVER ABSCESS: REVIEW OF 54 CASES
Background: Historically open surgical drainage has been the treatment of choice for pyogenic liver abscess. The records of 54 patients with pyogenic liver abscess were reviewed to determine whether earlier diagnosis with current imaging tests and definitive treatment with antibiotics and aspiration drainage was an effective alternative to surgery. Methods: The clinical features, laborator...
