The dark choroid in posterior retinal dystrophies.

چکیده
Fourteen families with genetically determined posterior retinal dystrophies were studied by fluorescein angiography. With one exception, the families could be segregated into two clearly defined categories, one in which every member had a dark choroid, and one where each had a light choroid. This implies that the fluorescein angiography provides a means of subdividing certain of these disorders into more specific disease groups.

The retina is a many layered structure and retinal dystrophies may affect any of the layers. From the vitreous to the choroid these are the internal limiting membrane, nerve fibre layer, ganglion cell layer, inner plexiform layer, inner nuclear layer, outer plexiform layer, outer nuclear layer, external limiting membrane, rod and cone inner and outer segments and the retinal pigment epithelium ...
متن کاملCell based therapies in retinal diseases
Background Degenerative retinal diseases, including age related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and hereditary retinal dystrophies are major causes of blindness. The principal defect in these diseases is cell loss which is amenable to both cell based neuroprotective and neuroregenerative therapies. To briefly review the lines of research and potential candidates for cell based therapies among ...
متن کاملGyrate Atrophy of the Choroid and Retina: A Case Report
Introduction Gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina is a metabolic disorder, which is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. Although gyrate atrophy is rare, it is concerning as it results in blindness. It is characterized by hyperornithinemia, retinal atrophy, leads to progressive myopia and tunnel vision,...
متن کاملMorphology of retinal photoreceptor layer in continuous light-exposed and dark-adapted male cats
The morphology of retinal photoreceptor layer was studied in continuous light-exposed and dark-adapteddomestic male cats (Felis catus). The eyes of 12 healthy adult cats (4 in continuous light-exposed group, 4 in continuous dark-adapted group, and 4 in control group) were routinely fixed and studied by electron microscope. Results showed that the general structure of photoreceptor layer in this...

The only frequent extraocular abnormalities they found, in spite of fairly intense medical investigation, were a raised cerebrospinal fluid protein without pleocytosis and some patients with "rheumatic disorder".
