Mechanical properties of fibre reinforced polymer reinforcing bars at elevated temperatures

چکیده
This paper presents the results of an experimental study of the mechanical properties of FRP reinforcement bars, used as internal reinforcement in concrete structures, at elevated temperatures. Two types of FRP bars namely: carbon fibre reinforced polyester bars of 9.5mm diameter and glass fibre reinforced polyester bars of 9.5mm and 12.7 mm diameter were used in the study. For comparison, conventional steel reinforcement bars of 10mm and 15mm diameter were also tested. Results from the experimental study show that the stressstrain relationships of FRP bars remained almost linear at elevated temperatures until failure. However, there was a gradual reduction in the failure strength of FRP bars at elevated temperatures, at an almost linear rate to zero at about 500C. Their elastic modulus remained almost unchanged until 300C-400C. After this temperature, there was a sharp drop in the elastic modulus. These properties can be used as input in computer programs for modelling the fire behaviour of concrete structural members reinforced with FRP bars.

Residual Tensile Strength and Bond Properties of GFRP Bars after Exposure to Elevated Temperatures
The use of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars in reinforced concrete members enhances corrosion resistance when compared to traditional steel reinforcing bars. Although there is ample research available on the behavior of FRP bars and concrete members reinforced with FRP bars under elevated temperatures (due to fire), there is little published information available on their post-fire residual ...

One of the greatest impediments to use polymer-matrix composites is their susceptibility to degradation when exposed to the elevated temperatures and the limited knowledge on the thermal and mechanical properties of these composites at such temperatures. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of accelerated heat aging on the tensile properties of the Woven Basalt/Phenolic (WBP) ...

The use of Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) bars is considered an alternative option in reinforcing concrete structures instead of conventional steel bars especially in harsh severe environments, due to their mechanical properties and physical characteristics. GFRP bars offer many advantages over steel counterparts such as corrosion resistance, high tensile strength, low weight and electro...
متن کاملInfluence of fibre and filler reinforcement of plastic brackets: an in vitro study.
In spite of their popularity in fulfilling aesthetic requirements, plastic brackets still present some disadvantages because of their low elastic modulus, decreased fracture toughness, and reduced wear resistance. Fibre-reinforced composites are well established in dentistry and consist of a polymer matrix in which reinforcing fibres are embedded. Stress is transferred from the polymer matrix t...
