چکیده
Modelling technical systems nowadays is a great challenge of automation technology. Particular complex manufacturing processes, like the industrial paper production, consists of discrete and continuous signals and dynamic response times. Inspired by Petri nets, this paper proposes a new modelling approach is presented to describe those technical systems on different abstraction layer. The hybrid process net simulator (HPNS) framework allows to specify complex models, typically represented as a system of differential equations mixed with continuous and discrete-event subsystems, based on a bipartite graph structure. In addition, the HPNS execute model specifications with dynamic delays. This paper focuses on the concept and the modelling approach. We give a short review of this new unified representation model for hybrid technical systems, the presentation of the model formalism is out of scope of this paper. A short summary about capabilities and restrictions of HPNS is presented. Moreover, examples of hybrid systems are presented.

History of the winter simulation conference: Coming-of-age period (1983-1992)
This paper presents the history of the Winter Simulation Conference (WSC) for the time period covering 1983–1992. This was a healthy era of growth for WSC as conference attendance was strong, exhibits were added, proceedings became hardback, program tracks were added, the Ph.D. Colloquium was initiated, and the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of WSC was celebrated in 1992. This article discusses all o...

The use of simulation as a modeling and analysis tool is wide spread. Simulation is an enabling tool for experimenting virtually on a validated computer environment. Often the underlying function for the results of a computer simulation experiment has too much curvature to be adequately modeled by a low order polynomial. In such cases finding an appropriate experimental design is not easy. This...

We discuss methods for statistically analyzing the output from stochastic simulations. Both terminating and steadystate simulations are considered.

The Monte Carlo and discrete-event simulation code associated with the Simulation 101 pre-conference workshop (offered at the 2006, 2007, and 2008 Winter Simulation Conferences) is available in both C and R. This paper begins with general instructions for downloading, compiling, and executing the software. This is followed by detailed explanations of two programs that are representative of the ...
