چکیده

Oxaloacetic acid is known to decompose in aqueous solution into pyruvic acid and CO2. AtpH 4 and 200 the rate of the 'ketone decomposition' varies between 6 and 18% per hr. The fact that this 'spontaneous' decomposition shows considerable variations suggests that trace impurities might affect the stability of oxaloacetic acid. Krampitz & Werkman [1941] recently reported that Mg ions accelerate the decomposition; this makes it probable that the impurities in question are inorganic salts. The effects of various salts on the rate of decomposition were -therefore studied. Oxaloacetic acid was prepared from tartaric acid according to the methods of Wohl & Oesterlin [1901] and Wohl & Claussnef [1907], and recrystallized according to Fenton & Jones [1900]. The rate of decomposition was measured by the manometric determination of the C02 evolution. Table 1 shows that many inorganic salts increase the rate of decomposition. Small quantities, amounting to 0-3% of the oxaloacetic acid added, are in many cases sufficient to produce a pronounced effect. The effect is thus a catalytic one. The data in Table 1 suggest the following details:

Hydrothermal decomposition of glucose and fructose with inorganic and organic potassium salts.

The effects of 15 inorganic and organic acid potassium salts on hydrothermal decomposition of glucose, fructose and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) were investigated at 180°C. The rate constants for glucose, fructose and 5-HMF decomposition with anions were calculated by a pseudo first-order equation, and the impact factors of the rate constants were calculated, to demonstrate the catalytic eff...

Impact of Distillery Effluent and Salts on Hydraulic Conductivity of a Sandy Loam Soil

Irrigation with distillery effluent, besides influencing crop yield, may have considerable impact on physical properties of soil because of its high salt and organic carbon contents. This experimental study was conducted to evaluate the effect of distillery effluent on hydraulic conductivity of a sandy loam alluvial soil and compare the effect of inorganic salts of potassium (K) with that of di...

Effect of single additive bivalent metal ions on the growth of Streptomyces clavuligerus and clavulanic acid production

Metal ions are the main impurities of water and media ingredients used in fermentation processes. In this research, the effect of Ca+2, Co+2, Cu+2, Fe+2, Mg+2, Mn+2 and Zn+2 as chloride and sulfate salts was studied on the clavulanic acid production and Streptomyces clavuligerus growth. All chloride salts had negative effect on clavulanic acid production and no clavulanic acid was produced in t...
