Coverage of Phenotypes in Standard Terminologies

چکیده
Objective: To assess the coverage of the Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO) phenotypes in standard terminologies. Methods: We map HPO terms to the UMLS and its source terminologies and compare these lexical mappings to HPO cross-references. Results: Coverage of HPO classes in UMLS is 54% and 30% in SNOMED CT. Lexical mappings largely outnumber cross-references. Conclusions: Our approach can support the development of cross-references to standard terminologies in HPO. Supplementary file: Our mapping to UMLS is available at: http://mor.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/supp/2014-biolink_phenotype-rw/index.html

dra ft Do We Need a Terminology for Fetal Medicine ?
Objectives: To assess the need for a standard terminology for Fetal Medicine. Methods: We start by establishing a corpus of fetal medicine articles, in order to support term extraction. We evaluate the coverage of the extracted terms in standard terminologies and assess the quality of these terms by manual review and natural language processing tools. Results: Our corpus includes 2,437 articles...
متن کاملApplication of standardized biomedical terminologies in radiology reporting templates
The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) has been promoting structured radiology reports by creating "best practices" reporting templates. The RSNA Reporting Template Library has been developed with the goal of integrating reusable knowledge into the clinical reporting process, which has intentionally incorporated standardized biomedical terminologies to reduce communication errors caus...
متن کاملDermO; an ontology for the description of dermatologic disease
BACKGROUND There have been repeated initiatives to produce standard nosologies and terminologies for cutaneous disease, some dedicated to the domain and some part of bigger terminologies such as ICD-10. Recently, formally structured terminologies, ontologies, have been widely developed in many areas of biomedical research. Primarily, these address the aim of providing comprehensive working term...
متن کاملTerminological Mapping for High Throughput Comparative Biology of Phenotypes
Comparative biological studies have led to remarkable biomedical discoveries. While genomic science and technologies are advancing rapidly, our ability to precisely specify a phenotype and compare it to related phenotypes of other organisms remains challenging. This study has examined the systematic use of terminology and knowledge based technologies to enable high-throughput comparative phenom...
متن کاملImproving information retrieval with multiple health terminologies in a quality-controlled gateway
BACKGROUND The Catalog and Index of French-language Health Internet resources (CISMeF) is a quality-controlled health gateway, primarily for Web resources in French (n=89,751). Recently, we achieved a major improvement in the structure of the catalogue by setting-up multiple terminologies, based on twelve health terminologies available in French, to overcome the potential weakness of the MeSH t...
