Zentrales Ereignis der Fiesta ist das öffentliche Vorlesen des kompletten ersten Teils des Don Quijote in deutscher Übersetzung: von 10 bis 24 h. Gelesen wird im Eingangsbereich der Unibibliothek, zusätzlich wird nach außen übertragen. Honoratioren der Ruhr-Uni und der Stadt Bochum, weitere Politiker, Künstler usw. werden lesen, vor allem sollen die Zuhörer selbst lesen – vollkommen spontan, je zehn Minuten lang. Das Lesen ist nur eines der Ereignisse am 3. Mai. So wird sich der gesamte Campus in die mediterrane Welt des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts verwandeln.
