The first successful treatment of growth hormone (GH) deficient children with GH extracted from human pituitary was introduced during late 1950's. The subsequent availability and use of recombinant GH (rhGH) for different clinical conditions raised the question of whether this new therapeutic modality increases the risk of certain conditions such as leukemia or malignancy. Herein, we report o...
متن کاملA rare case of thyroid carcinoma in a 14-year-old female patient
The incidence of thyroid and the prevalence of follicular carcinoma is rare in childhood and adolescents; however, it is considered as the second most common pediatric thyroid malignancy. Vascular invasion, distant metastasis, and tumor size greater than 4 cm are among the factors leading to total thyroidectomy followed by radioactive iodine therapy. The tumor size of the case in this study was...
متن کاملClinical Response with Sunitinib Therapy in the Treatment of Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer
Background: Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC), while rare, carries a uniformly poor prognosis. Current treatment includes surgery when possible, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. Multiple chemotherapeutic agents are in the process of clinical testing, and promising agents include those in the tyrosine kinase inhibitor family. Our patient represents a novel case of ATC treated with sunitinib, one su...
متن کاملLong Term Survival in a Patient with Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma Treated with Cricotracheal Resection
Anaplastic thyroid cancer is an uncommon malignancy with a poor prognosis. Elderly patients are most commonly afflicted and survival past 3 years occurs in less than 5% of patients. Management of these patients is challenging, and the importance of palliation, airway protection, and aggressive resection is debated. In this report, we describe a patient with anaplastic thyroid carcinoma who pres...

Differentiated thyroid carcinomas usually show good uptake and response to I-131 ablative treatment. In this study, 90 patients following near total thyroidectomy who were referred to our institute for I-131 therapy are retrospectively studied. The patients are divided in two groups. Group 1 revealed complete ablation after one dose of I-131. Group 2 needed more than one dose of I-131 for...
