چکیده

background: previous studies have shown morphological changes after intra peritoneal drug administration in human and animals. this study examines the effect of intrapretoneal nicotine administration on pyramidal neurons in area ca1of hippocampus. methods: the study included male wistar rats with the mean weigh of 220-250 g. nicotine was administered at a dose of 0.4 and 1.5 mg/kg, each for a period of three days. the animals were then anesthetized using ketamine (70 mg/kg). after being fixed through transcardiac canula with formalin 4% and bafer phosphate 6, the brains were sectioned and stained using golgi’s staining technique. using motic software, they were then examined for histological evaluations. data were analyzed using unpaired ttest results: our results showed a decrease in the size and the number of pyramidal cells in area ca1 of hippocampus for the nicotine group. while the number of dendrites was fewer in experimental group, asterocytes had increased in comparison to the control group. conclusion: our study indicates that nicotine administration results in a significant reduction in the size of pyramidal cells in area ca1of hippocampus.

Changes in the number of nitrergic neurons in rats hippocampus following nicotine administration.

Nicotine is a very widely used drug of abuse, which exerts a number of neurovegetative behavioural effects by interacting with the neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. Using histochemical analysis (NADPH-diaphorase and Fluoro-Jade B dye), the influence of intraperitoneal administration of nicotine on neurons of the hippocampus in 35-day-old male rats of the Wistar strain was studied. At t...

Morphological changes of lumbar spinal neurons after sciatic nerve transection in neonate rats

Axotomy of the sciatic nerve have been documented to cause neuronal loss, especially in newborn rats. Few works have focused on time course of neuronal loss and the type of cell death, which occurs after axotomy. Forty rat pups were anesthetized by hypothermia and the right sciatic nerve transected at five days of their age and the left side was used as control. The operated animals were sacrif...

Morphological changes in the hippocampus following nicotine and kainic acid administration.

Using histochemical analysis (NADPH-diaphorase, Fluoro-Jade B dye and bis-benzimide 33,342 Hoechst) we studied the influence of intraperitoneal administration of nicotine (NIC), kainic acid (KA) and combination of both these substances on hippocampal neurons and their changes. In experiments, 35-day-old male rats of the Wistar strain were used. Animals were pretreated with 1 mg/kg of nicotine 3...

Morphological Changes in Hippocampal Ca1 Area in Diabetic Rats: A Golgi-impregnation Study

Background and Objective: Although diabetes mellitus is known to be one of the risk factors for dementia but neuropathic changes in the brain of diabetic patients have not been completely revealed. Therefore, this research study was done to evaluate structural changes in pyramidal neurons of hippocampal ...

Electrophysiological study of amygdale-induced changes in the excitability of CA1 hippocampal pyramidal neurons in male adult rats

Introduction: Many studies have shown that amygdala kindling produces synaptic potentiation by induction of changes in the neuronal electrophysiological properties and inward currents both in epileptic focus and in the areas which are in connection with the epileptic focus and have important role in seizure development and progression such as hippocampal CA1 region. However, cellular mechani...
