neurodevelopmental basis of neurodegenerative diseases

چکیده
the human brain is composed of several interconnected, functionally distinct structures and much debate has surrounded the basic question of how these structures evolve. brain development begins in early gestation. between 4 weeks and 9 months, brain undergoes rapid development. there are six stages of nervous system development. brain increases connections between birth and 21 years of age. abnormalities in the neurodevelopmental phase of the nervous system are present in people with psychologic and neurologic diseases. structural brain abnormalities are an established feature of schizophrenia. these findings are important samples to gain further insight into some of these questions about the possibility of a nerodevelopmental basis for neurodegenerative diseases.

Pluripotent stem cells in neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases.
Most of our current knowledge about cellular phenotypes in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases in humans was gathered from studies in postmortem brain tissues. These samples often represent the end-stage of the disease and therefore are not always a fair representation of how the disease developed. Moreover, under these circumstances, the pathology observed could be a secondary ef...
متن کاملThe cellular basis of dendrite pathology in neurodegenerative diseases
One of the characteristics of the neurons that distinguishes them from other cells is their complex and polarized structure consisting of dendrites, cell body, and axon. The complexity and diversity of dendrites are particularly well recognized, and accumulating evidences suggest that the alterations in the dendrite structure are associated with many neurodegenerative diseases. Given the import...
متن کاملNeural basis of interpersonal traits in neurodegenerative diseases.
Several functional and structural imaging studies have investigated the neural basis of personality in healthy adults, but human lesions studies are scarce. Personality changes are a common symptom in patients with neurodegenerative diseases like frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and semantic dementia (SD), allowing a unique window into the neural basis of personality. In this study, we used the In...

Clinical neurology has been traditionally considered as an academic speciality in which the specialist regurgitates his/her knowledge of neurology without being able to do much for the patient. This attitude is no longer acceptable. Surge of information and discoveries in neurosciences within the last two decades translated into therapeutic interventions which is literally life saving in some o...
متن کاملP 155: The Roles of Microglia in Neurodegenerative Diseases
Microglia is a type of glial cell located throughout the central nervous system (CNS), which is sensitive to CNS injury and disease. Responsibility of microglia as the resident macrophage cells for injuries suggests that these cells have the potential to act as diagnostic markers of disease beginning or progression. Function of Microglia is strongly synchronized by the microenvironment of brain...
