Effect of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease on carotid artery intima-media thickness as a risk factor for atherosclerosis
AIM This study aimed to evaluate the effect of NAFLD on CIMT as a risk factor for atherosclerosis. BACKGROUND The prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasing worldwide due to rise of obesity and diabetes mellitus (DM) prevalence. Non-invasive assessment of carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) by high-resolution carotid B-mode ultrasonography is widely used for deter...
متن کاملبررسی نقش کبد چرب بر خطر بیماریهای قلبی- عروقی از طریق اندازهگیری ضخامت انتیمامدیای شریان کاروتید
Background and Aim: A lot of studies is done about various components of the metabolic syndrome in association with non-alcoholic fatty liver due to increasing carotid intima media thickness as a risk factor of cardiovascular diseases. But few studies have been done on the role of non-alcoholic fatty liver as an independent risk factor for carotid intima media thickening. The present stud...
متن کاملThe Effect of GeriLact on Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease which is correlated with overweight, obesity, and insulin resistance. Recently, the use of probiotics has been suggested for these patients as they have considerable outcomes. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effect of GeriLact on patients with NAFLD. Method:</...
متن کاملCarotid intima-media thickness as a biomarker of subclinical atherosclerosis.
Intima-media thickness of the carotid artery (CIMT) and its increase is associated with several cardiovascular risk factors and manifest cardiovascular diseases. CIMT is suggested to be an important biomarker of subclinical atherosclerosis. CIMT is measured in B-mode ultrasound images of the carotid tree as a typical double line of the arterial wall. CIMT is best visible in the measurement segm...
متن کاملCarotid artery Intima-Media thickness and cardiovascular risk factors in chronic hemodialysis patients
Introduction: Common carotid artery intima-media thickness (CCA-IMT) correlates with cardiovascular mortality in patients under hemodialysis. In this investigation, we evaluated relationship between CCA-IMT with dependent and independent cardiovascular risk factors in chronic hemodialysis patients. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 51 chronic hemodialysis patients, (31 males and 20 fema...

BACKGROUND/AIMS This study aimed to understand the role of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in increasing the risk of atherosclerosis in obese pediatric patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study included 109 obese children (age, 9-15 years) and a control group comprising 44 healthy age- and gender-matched children with normal weight. NAFLD was diagnosed using conventional ultrasound ...
