چکیده

conclusions it is logical to primarily prescribe meropenem, imipenem, polymyxin b and cotrimoxazole in the cases of superficial infections caused by p. aeruginosa. medical practitioners should be aware of the presence of such levels of antibiotic resistance in cases of superficial infections in iran. materials and methods three hundred swab samples were collected from patients with superficial infections. samples were cultured and those that were p. aeruginosa positive were analyzed by the disk diffusion method. results one hundred and seventy-two out of 300 swab samples (57.3%) were positive for p. aeruginosa. the results of the culture technique were also confirmed using the polymerase chain reaction (pcr). females had a higher prevalence of p. aeruginosa than males, patients older than 70 years were the most infected age group and finally burn infections had the highest prevalence of bacteria. p. aeruginosa strains had the highest levels of resistance against ampicillin (93%), gentamycin (89.5%), ciprofloxacin (82.5%) and amikacin (77.3%). the most effective drugs were meropenem (2.3%, imipenem (2.9%), polymyxin b (21.5%) and cotrimoxazole (31.9%). background pseudomonas aeruginosa, a ubiquitous opportunistic pathogen, is one of the main causative agents of human superficial infections. infections due to these bacteria are difficult to heal and cause serious economic issues. objectives the present study was carried out to investigate the antibiotic resistance pattern of p. aeruginosa isolated from cases of superficial infections referred to the emergency health care units of iranian hospitals.

Antibiotic Susceptibility of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Isolated from Cystic Fibrosis Patients

Abstract Background and Objective: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive genetic disease and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common bacteria colonized in CF patients. Growing resistance of this bacterium to antibiotics now a day is a challenge of controlling infection in CF patient. In this study colonization of CF patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and antibiotic suscep...

Drug resistance of isolated strains of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa from burn wound infections to selected antibiotics and disinfectants

Background and Objectives: Infection is the most common problem following burn injury. Selection and dissemination of intrinsic and acquired resistance mechanisms increase the probability of burn wound colonization by resistant species including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Multi-drug resistant Pseudomonas ae...

PLASMID MEDIATED METAL AND ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE IN PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA STRAINS ISOLATED FROM BURN PATIENTS

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a leading cause of bum infections, and antibiotic- resistant strains of this bacterium are emerging due to extensive application of antibiotics in the bum unit of hospitals. In this study 50 strains of P. aeruginosa were isolated from bum patients infected with this micro-organism in the bum unit of a general hospital in Kerman, Iran over one year [May 1999-ApriI20...

Antibiotic resistance profiles of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates containing virulence genes

Background: A most common opportunistic pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is present in both humans and animals and responsible for various nosocomial infections and healthcare settings related infections. Different virulence genes like; oprL (membrane lipoprotein L) and toxA (exotoxin A i.e. ETA) in P. aeruginosa, assist in its pathogenicity, toxicity and contribute to high antibiotic resistanc...

Molecular detection of Integron genes and pattern of antibiotic resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains isolated from intensive care unit, Shahid Beheshti Hospital, North of Iran

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most important pathogens that causes nosocomial infections and shows high level of antibiotic resistance. Integrons are one of the transposable elements in bacteria and their role in antibiotic resistance has been well demonstrated. The aim of this study was a molecular characterization of the integron genes and the determination of the resistance or sensiti...
