چکیده

background: growth factors play a major part in wound healing in many tissues including the periodontium. transforming growth factor-β1 (tgf-β1) is one of these factors present in the gingival crevicular fluid. in addition, it is considered as one of the most important anti-inflammatory cytokines. interleukin-1β is a proinflammatory cytokine that presents itself in gingival inflammation and the gcf. such factors might be of value as prognostic markers of wound healing activity and the therapeutic progress following flap surgery. objective: the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of surgical flap on the concentration of il-1β and tgf-β in the gcf of patients with moderate to severe chronic periodontitis. methods: the gcf samples were collected, using the perio-paper strip at phase 1 (pre-surgery), phase 2 (4th week post surgery) and phase 3 (12th week post surgery) from 20 sites of 10 patients undergoing flap surgery. after the elution, il-1β and tgf-β concentrations were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (elisa). results: the mean tgf-β and il-1β concentration decreased from phase 1 to phase 3 (p

Introduction: Cytokines are the important factors in the progression of periodontal diseases. The aim of this study was to find out the effect of the first phase of the periodontal therapy on the amount of existing IL-17 and IL-23 in gingival crevicular fluid in patients with severe periodontitis and in the control group. Methods: In this clinical trial intervention study, after purifying the...

Concentration of MMP-8 and IL-1β in gingival crevicular fluid in patients with chronic and aggressive periodontitis

Modern research confirms the role of inflammatory mediators in the pathomechanism of periodontal tissue destruction. The aim of the study was to determine concentrations of MMP-8 and IL-1β in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) in patients with advanced chronic and aggressive periodontitis. The authors measured the concentrations of the above inflammatory mediators in gingival crevicular fluid of d...

Histopathological Study of the Effect of Smoking on Free Gingiva in Patients with Moderate to Severe Chronic Periodontitis

Introduction: Cigarette smoking is a risk factor for progression of periodontitis, which effects on the incidence, extent and severity of the periodontal disease and no other known factors can be harmful as much as smoking to the periodontal tissues. The purpose of this study was to determine clinical and histopathological effects of smoking on free gingiva in smokers and non-smokers with chro...

Gingival Crevicular Fluid Immunoglobulins in Smokers with Chronic Periodontitis

Tobacco smoking is regarded as one of the most significant risk factors in the development and progression of periodontal disease. Studies have shown an altered host antibody response to antigenic challenge in smokers with periodontitis. The study was undertaken to estimate the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) immunoglobulin G,A,M (IgA, IgG and IgM) levels in smokers and non smoker with periodon...
