bacterial adhesion of porphyromonas gingivalis on provisional fixed prosthetic materials

چکیده
background: when provisional restorations are worn for long term period, the adhesion of bacteria becomes a primary factor in the development of periodontal diseases. the aims of this study were to evaluate the surface roughness and bacterial adhesion of four different provisional fixed prosthodontic materials. methods: ten cylindrical specimens were prepared from bis-acrylic composites (prevision cb and protemp 3 garant), a light-polymerized composite (revotek lc), and a polymethyl methacrylate-based (dentalon) provisional fixed prosthodontic materials. surface roughness was assessed by profilometry. the bacterial adhesion test was applied using porphyromonas gingivalis ( p. gingivalis ) and spectrofluorometric method. statistical analysis was performed using anova and dunnett t-tests. results: all tested materials were significantly rougher than glass (p < 0.05). revotek lc had the greatest fluorescence intensity, prevision and protemp 3 garant had moderate values and all of them had significantly more bacterial adhesion compared to glass (p < 0.05). dentalon had the lowest fluorescence intensity among the provisional fixed prosthodontic materials. conclusion: the quantity of bacterial adhesion and surface roughness differed among the assessed provisional fixed prosthodontic materials. the light-polymerized provisional material revotek lc had rougher surface and more bacterial adhesion compared with the others.

Editorial Periodontal diseases have long been associated with an increased, yet moderate, risk for the development of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. The postulated mechanism underlying this association is the low grade systemic inflammatory response to pathogens engaged in chronic periodontal infection, such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, which may facilitate atheroma formation and t...
متن کاملPorphyromonas gingivalis gingipains and adhesion to epithelial cells.
Porphyromonas gingivalis is one of the principal organisms associated with adult periodontitis. Bacterial surface proteins such as fimbriae and gingipain hemagglutinin domains have been implicated as adhesins that actuate colonization of epithelium lining the gingival sulcus. We investigated the genetics of P. gingivalis adhesion to monolayers of epithelial cells using wild-type and gingipain m...
متن کاملPorphyromonas gingivalis strain diversity.
Porphyromonas gingivalis is implicated in the etiology of chronic periodontitis. Genotyping studies suggest that genetic variability exists among P. gingivalis strains; however, the extent of variability remains unclear and regions of variability remain largely unidentified. To assess P. gingivalis strain diversity, we previously used heteroduplex analysis of the ribosomal operon intergenic spa...

Marginal periodontitis is not a homogeneous disease but is rather influenced by an intricate set of host susceptibility differences as well as diversities in virulence among the harbored organisms. It is likely that clonal heterogeneity of subpopulations with both high and low levels of pathogenicity exists among organisms harbored by individuals with negligible, slight, or even severe periodon...
متن کاملAdhesion of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Biofilm Formation on Different Types of Orthodontic Brackets
Objectives. To examine the interaction between Porphyromonas gingivalis and 3 different orthodontic brackets in vitro, focusing on the effect of an early salivary pellicle and other bacteria on the formation of biofilms. Material and Methods. Mono- and multi-species P. gingivalis biofilms were allowed to form in vitro, on 3 different bracket types (stainless steel, ceramic and plastic) with and...
