چکیده
introduction: oral lichen planus (olp) and oral lichenoid lesions (olls) are clinically and histopathologically similar lesions but with different etiologies and treatment plan, thus differentiatingthese two has been the center of many researches. studies in different populations have beenperformed on clinical and histopathologic features of olp and olls. thus aim of the present studywas to evaluate and also compare the clinical and histopathologic features of these two diseasesin a 10‑year period in esfahan. materials and methods: this descriptive–analytic study was based on retrospective survey of 232records with clinical and histopathologic diagnosis of olp and olls available from archive of oralpathology, esfahan dental school 2000-2010. data was statistically analyzed by use of independent t ‑test, fisher exact, and chi‑square. results: involvement of lip was the only clinically significant difference between olp and olls, most seen in olls. band‑like inflammatory infiltrate mainly composed of lymphocyte, saw toothedrete ridges, max joseph space, and atrophic epithelium was significantly seen in olp. whilehyperkeratosis, deep connective tissue infiltrate composed of eosinophil, neutrophil, and plasmacell were seen in olls. conclusion: involvement of lip was the only clinically significant difference between olp and olls. histopathologically strict band like infiltration, atrophic epithelium, saw toothed rete ridges, and max joseph space are reliable criteria for differentiation of olp as deep connective tissueinfiltration and hyperparakeratosis are for diagnosis of olls. key words: clinical, oral lichen planus, oral lichenoid lesions, pathologic

متن کاملClinicopathologic Correlation of Oral Lichen Planus and Oral Lichenoid Lesions: A Preliminary Study
Oral lichen planus (OLP) and oral lichenoid lesions (OLL) are clinically and histologically similar lesions but their treatment planning and prognosis are different. The review of the literature indicates numerous criteria to distinguish these two lesions; however there is a lot of inconsistency. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine the correlation of histopathology and clinical OLP and...
متن کاملOral Lichen Planus or Oral Lichenoid Reaction? A Literature Review
Background and Aim: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic, inflammatory, T-cell-mediated autoimmune oral mucosal disease. Oral lichenoid lesions develop as a type IV hypersensitivity reaction. Both of these entities are potential precancerous conditions; this adds to their clinical significance. The purpose of this literature review was to detect the similarities and the differences of these le...
متن کاملOral lichen planus and oral lichenoid lesions; a critical appraisal with emphasis on the diagnostic aspects.
Oral lichen planus (OLP) has a prevalence of approximately 1%. The etiopathogenesis is poorly understood. The annual malignant transformation is less than 0.5%. There are no effective means to either predict or to prevent such event. Oral lesions may occur that to some extent look like lichen planus but lacking the characteristic features of OLP, or that are indistinguishable from OLP clinicall...
متن کاملNuclear and cellular volumetric alterations in oral lichen planus and lichenoid lesions: a histomorphometric study.
There is presently no line of distinction between oral lichen planus and other oral lichenoid lesions. The aim of this study is to determine using histomorphometry, the differences between these lesions. Paraffin sections from 7 normal buccal epithelium, 19 oral lichen planus (LP), 14 oral lichenoid lesions (LL) and 7 discoid lupus erythematosus-like lesions (DLE-ll) were selected. The nuclear ...
متن کاملOral symptoms and salivary findings in oral lichen planus, oral lichenoid lesions and stomatitis
BACKGROUND To examine if patients with oral lichen planus, oral lichenoid lesions and generalised stomatitis and concomitant contact allergy have more frequent and severe xerostomia, lower unstimulated and chewing-stimulated saliva and citric-acid-stimulated parotid saliva flow rates, and higher salivary concentration of total protein and sIgA than cases without contact allergy and healthy cont...
