چکیده
purpose: to evaluate the effect of phacoemulsification and posterior chamber intraocular lens (pciol) implantation on intraocular pressure (iop) in eyes with chronic angle-closure glaucoma. methods: twenty-two patients with chronic angle-closure glaucoma (cacg) and visually significant cataract were included in our study. all were underwent phacoemulsification and pciol implantation. iop, depth of angle, visual acuity, and the number of antiglaucoma medications were recorded preoperatively and one day, one week, one month, two months, and six months postoperatively. results: the mean age was 71.04±6.55 years and there were 8 males (36.4%) and 14 females (63.6%). the mean iop was 19.54±1.49 mm hg preoperatively and 16.04±1.49 mm hg six months postoperatively. the mean number of antiglaucoma medications was 2 preoperatively and 0.18±0.50 at final follow-up. the mean preoperative logmar visual acuity was 1.00 and 0.3 at final follow-up (p <0.005). conclusion: when chronic angle-closure glaucoma is associated with visually significant cataract, phacoemulsification and pciol implantation alone can significantly reduce intraocular pressure. iranian journal of ophthalmology 200619(3):6-8

Reduction of intraocular pressure and improvement of vision after cataract surgeries in angle closure glaucoma with concomitant cataract patients.
OBJECTIVE This study is to compare the efficacy of three different cataract surgeries in eyes with angle closure glaucoma (ACG) with concomitant cataract. METHODS A retrospective comparative analysis of 106 ACG patients (112 eyes) with concomitant cataract was conducted between February, 2012 and February, 2014. Clinical outcomes of ACG patients with concomitant cataract underwent phacoemulsi...

متن کاملInaccuracy of Intraocular Lens Power Prediction for Cataract Surgery in Angle-Closure Glaucoma
PURPOSE To assess the accuracy of intraocular lens (IOL) power predictions for cataract surgery in eyes with primary angle-closure glaucoma (ACG). Because of shifting of the capsular bag apparatus and shortening of the axial length, preoperative calculation of IOL power may be inaccurate for eyes with ACG. MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective comparative case series comprised of 42 eyes f...
متن کاملIntraocular pressure outcome after phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation in chronic angle closure glaucoma patients without extensive peripheral anterior synechiae
Background:Cataract extraction surgery significantly decreases intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with various forms of angle closure glaucoma (ACG). However, most reports did not specify the circumferential extent of peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS). Objective: Evaluate IOP after phacoemulsification with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in chronic ACG patients without extensive PAS. ...
متن کاملThe effect of low dose of ketamine on intraocular pressure in patients undergoing cataract surgery
Background: Cataract surgery is one of the most common surgeries in the world, especially in elderly patients, and often performed topically with sedative agents. Ketamine is one of the most commonly used agents and the effect of different doses on intraocular pressure is in dispute. The present study investigates the effect of a low dose of ketamine on intraocular pressure in patients undergoi...
متن کاملGonioscopic Features in Patients with Acute and Chronic Angle-Closure Glaucoma
Background: A number of ocular biometric parameters, iris hiotologic and anatomic characters have been suggested as inciting factors for converting patients with narrow angle to angle-closure glaucoma. This study was conducted to determine if there was any goniscopic difference between patients with acute angle-closure glaucoma (AACG) and chronic angle-closure glaucoma (CACG). Methods: ...
