posterior segment complications following laser assisted in situ keratomileusis (lasik): a report of 5 cases
نویسندگان
چکیده
purpose: to report complications involving the posterior segment after laser assisted in situ keratomileusis (lasik) in 5 myopic patients ranging in age from 26 to 38 years. patients and findings: case one developed bilateral cilioretinal artery obstruction in association with ischemic optic neuropathy. case two presented with nonsimultaneous bilateral delayed-onset optic neuropathy. in case three, aggravation of the symptoms and signs of stargardt's maculopathy was noticed. case four showed rapid progression and worsening of diabetic retinopathy in both her eyes. in case five, early onset unilateral macular hemorrhage was observed. conclusion: the increased intraocular pressure during lasik surgery may disturb blood flow in posterior ciliary arteries and choroid. the deleterious effect of lasik on ocular circulation may result in sight threatening complications in predisposed patients.

متن کاملPhoto essay: disastrous complications following a bilateral, same-day laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) procedure.
I N 1998, a 37-year-old woman underwent bilateral same-day laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) surgery. The preoperative refraction was −6 diopters (D) for each eye. The surgery on the right eye was uncomplicated. On the left eye, the procedure was complicated by cornealperforation, probablydue tomisassembly of an older-generation microkeratome with a removable spacer plate. Despite surgical re...

متن کاملTraumatic Acremonium atrogriseum keratitis following laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis.
A 52-year-old man underwent bilateral laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis. Eight months later, he sustained a penetrating corneal injury to the left eye. A dense white infiltrate, unresponsive to antimicrobial therapy, developed in the corneal stroma. Corneal biopsy and eventual penetrating keratoplasty were performed, and both specimens demonstrated fungal elements with branching, septate hy...

AIMS To investigate the histopathological changes of rabbit corneas after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and to evaluate the corneal wound healing process. METHODS A LASIK was performed on white rabbit eyes. Postoperatively, rabbits were killed on days 1 and 7, and at 1, 3, and 9 months. RESULTS Periodic acid Schiff (PAS) positive material and disorganised collagen fibre were seen alo...
متن کاملTraumatic corneal flap displacement after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK)
BACKGROUND Laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is the most common and popular procedure performed for the correction of refractive errors in the last two decades. We report a case of traumatic flap displacement with flap folding which occurred 3 years after LASIK was performed. Previous literature suggests that vision prognosis would be closely related to proper and prompt management of trauma...
