opposite clear corneal incisions versus on-axis incision during phacoemulsification to correct pre-existing astigmatism
نویسندگان
چکیده
purpose: to compare the efficacy of adding an opposite clear corneal incision (occi) on the steep axis during phacoemulsification in reducing the pre-existing corneal astigmatism. methods: this randomized clinical trial was performed on 120 eyes with corneal astigmatism of >1d undergoing phacoemulsification. incisions were made based on the type of astigmatism as follows: superior or superior+occi in the with-the-rule and temporal or temporal+occi in the against-the-rule astigmatism. patients were followed with refraction, keratometry and topography. statistical analyses were done using one and two ways anova and tukey-a test. results: mean corneal astigmatism was 1.82±0.86 d in the superior+occi group and 1.74±0.86 d in the temporal+occi group preoperatively which respectively decreased to 1.31±0.59 (p= 0.013) and 1.19±0.64 (p= 0.009) postoperatively. no significant changes occurred in the amount of astigmatism in none of the two single incision groups. conclusion: paired occi on steep axis is a useful technique to correct mild to moderate pre-existing astigmatism with no need to extra skill or instrumentation.

Opposite Clear Corneal Incisions versus Steep Meridian Incision Phacoemulsification for Correction of Pre-existing Astigmatism
PURPOSE To compare the efficacy of adding an opposite clear corneal incision (OCCI) on the steep meridian versus performing surgery on the steep meridian alone during phacoemulsification in reducing pre-existing corneal astigmatism. METHODS This randomized clinical trial was performed on 120 eyes with corneal astigmatism of >1D undergoing phacoemulsification. Incisions were made based on the ...

purpose: to evaluate the effectiveness of limbal relaxing incision (lri) during phacoemulsification for correcting pre-existing corneal astigmatism. methods: the study included 21 eyes of 21 patients undergoing phacoemulsification combined with lri and 36 eyes of 36 patients undergoing phacoemulsification without lri as controls. lri was created according to a nomorgram based on preoperative as...
متن کاملComparison of preoperative and postoperative astigmatism after superotemporal or superonasal clear corneal incision in phacoemulsification.
The aim of this work was comparison of preoperative and postoperative astigmatism after superotemporal or superonasal clear corneal incision. Twenty eight eyes of 28 patients treated with phacoemulsification through superotemporal or superonasal 3 mm clear corneal incision were examined by kerato-refractometer preoperatively and six months postoperatively. Adequate score was assigned to each pr...
متن کاملComparison of pre-incision and single-stepped clear corneal incision in phacoemulsification surgery.
AIM To compare postoperative keratometric corneal refractive changes after phacoemulsification surgery between pre-incision and single stepped clear corneal incision techniques. PATIENTS AND METHODS This prospective clinical study included 40 eyes of 40 patients who underwent clear corneal cataract surgery. Twenty eyes were operated using pre-incision technique (Group A), and 20 eyes using si...

Material and Methods: A prospective study was performed on 144 eyes of 132 patients. They were operated upon for cataract between 12/01/2007 and 31/12/2012 by a single eye surgeon at a private set up. Follow up period was from 6 month to five years (mean 33 months). The patients included in this study, underwent cataract surgery by phacoemulsification through 3.2 mm superotemporal clear corneal...
متن کاملSurgically induced astigmatism after phacoemulsification by temporal clear corneal and superior clear corneal approach: a comparison
Introduction Cataract surgery has undergone various advances since it was evolved from ancient couching to the modern phacoemulsification cataract surgery. Surgically induced astigmatism (SIA) remains one of the most common complications. The introduction of sutureless clear corneal incision has gained increasing popularity worldwide because it offers several advantages over the traditional sut...
