چکیده

conclusions according to the presented case and subsequent literature review on fatal ebv hepatitis, clinicians should consider ebv infection in the differential diagnosis when hepatitis occurs in critically ill patients during the anti-tb therapy. although hepatitis caused by ebv is mostly self-limited, some might be fetal. introduction although hepatitis is frequently observed during antituberculosis (anti-tb) therapy, acute viral hepatitis should be ruled out first, especially in the endemic areas. in addition to common types of viral hepatitis, ie, hepatitis a, hepatitis b, and hepatitis c viruses, epstein-barr virus (ebv) may result in hepatitis in some cases. case presentation herein, we reported a critically ill patient who developed cholestatic hepatitis in the intensive care unit during the anti-tb therapy, which was misdiagnosed as anti-tb agents-induced hepatitis in the beginning. further serologic tests and liver biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of ebv hepatitis. in contrast to previously reported hepatitis by ebv, which had presented with transient liver dysfunction and self-limiting illness, hepatitis with progressive jaundice was followed by coagulopathy and encephalopathy in our case and the patient died of hepatic failure complications.

Epstein-Barr Virus Infection Mimicking Drug-Induced Hepatitis in a Critically ill Patient During Antituberculosis Therapy

Fatal hepatitis during Epstein-Barr virus reactivation.

Fulminant hepatitis by Epstein-Barr virus is a rare event which is predominantly due to primary infection. We report a rare case of fatal hepatic failure due to Epstein-Barr virus reactivation in a 19-year-old boy who was taking oral steroids. Transaminase peak and the fulminant course of the disease began soon after steroid interruption. Epstein-Barr virus reactivation was diagnosed on the bas...

Seropidemiology of Epstein – Barr virus infection among asymptomatic

Introduction: Epstein – Barr virus (EBV) is a herpesvirus which establishes a persistent life-long infection in over 95% of adults world wide. Infection is usually asymptomatic but the virus is associated with a variety of disease, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), Burkitt’s lymphoma (BL), Multiple sclerosis MS, EBV-associated B-cell lymphoproliferative disease (BLPD), Hodgkin and non...

Dendritic cells during Epstein Barr virus infection

Epstein Barr virus (EBV) causes persistent infection in more than 90% of the human adult population and is associated with 2% of all tumors in humans. This γ-herpes virus infects primarily human B and epithelial cells, but it has been reported to be sensed by dendritic cells (DCs) during primary infection. These activated DCs are thought to contribute to innate restriction of EBV infection and ...

Induced by Infection with Epstein-Barr Virus

Metabolically labeled monoclonal antibodies were used to measure the number of determinants per cell for an Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) cell surface antigen (EBVCS) (C. Kintner and B. Sugden, Nature [London] 294:458-460, 1981) which is expressed on the surface of EBV-transformed cells. The antigenic determinants were present approximately 5 x 105 times per in vitro-transformed cell. Immunoprecipit...

Acute cholestatic hepatitis induced by Epstein–Barr virus infection in an adult: a case report

BACKGROUND Acute cholestatic hepatitis without features of infectious mononucleosis is a rare presentation of primary Epstein-Barr infection, with only several cases previously reported in the medical literature. Early investigation for Epstein-Barr virus in febrile patients with deranged liver function tests and no demonstrable biliary obstruction on imaging can expedite both diagnosis and tre...
