conclusions we introduced an anti-hbsp antibodies elisa, designed for locally circulating hbv strains. correlation observed of anti-hbsp with liver fibrosis staging regardless of viral replication and liver inflammation suggests anti-hbsp antibodies as possible indicator for hbv-associated liver fibrosis. results seven out of eighty (9%) chb patients were positive for anti-hbsp antibodies. mean od values were not significantly different between hbeag-positive and -negative patients (p > 0.05). od values showed weak positive correlation with alt and ast values (p < 0.05), and weak to moderate positive correlation with liver biopsy staging ranks (p < 0.05). no significant correlation was revealed with viral load values or liver biopsy grading ranks (p > 0.05). patients and methods eighty treatment-naïve hbsag-positive adult chronic hepatitis b patients' sera were included in our prospective targeted study. liver function, virological and histological tests results were obtained from patients’ medical files. three variants of a 20-mer hbsp-derived peptide were designed based on hbv genome sequences obtained from syrian patients' sera (genbank accession no. jn257148-jn257217). microtiter plate wells were coated with the synthetic peptides and used to detect anti-hbsp antibodies by an optimized indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (elisa). samples were considered positive when showed optical density (od) values higher than the cut-off value for at least one peptide variant. background previous studies have suggested hepatitis b splice-generated protein (hbsp), when expressed, is involved in the pathogenesis of hbv infection. objectives we aimed to evaluate anti-hbsp incidence and association with several hbv infection parameters in a group of syrian chronic hepatitis b patients.

Surface protein mutations in chronic hepatitis B patients who received hepatitis B vaccine therapy

Objective (s):The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between vaccine therapy and appearance of mutations in hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) patients. Materials and Methods: 16 patients received the HBV vaccine and another 16 individuals from the control group did not. The surface gene was amplified and directly sequenced from samples...

The Study of Cerumen Hepatitis B Infection in Chronic Hepatitis B Patients by Real-Time PCR

Introduction: The hepatitis B is a viral infection that causes a big problem globally. About 2 billion people worldwide are infected and there are now about 400 million HBV-DNA carriers around the world. HBV infection is the ninth cause of death worldwide and infects about 350 million new cases each year in the world. HBV-DNA can be spotted in different body secretions and fluids, including se...

YMDD and FLLAQ Mutations in Chronic Hepatitis B Patients

Abstract Background and Objective: Lamivudine is the first orally available drug approved for treatment of chronic hepatitis B. Mutations at the YMDD and FLLAQ motifs in the domains of HBV polymerase gene contribute resistance to lamivudine. This study was aimed to determine the rate of YMDD and FLLAQ mutants in hepatitis B patients in Golestan Province, Iran. Material and methods: In this cros...

Mutations at Nucleotide 1762, 1764 and 1766 of Hepatitis B Virus X Gene in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B and Hepatitis B-Related Cirrhosis

Abstract Background and objective: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a DNA virus with high tendency toward hepatic tissue. There are currently about 3 million HBV-infected people and 350 to 400 million chronic carriers of this virus in the world. X protein plays a role in the over-expression of oncogenes, carcinogenicity of liver cells and overlaps with the basal co...

Significance of Hepatitis B Core Antibody as the Only Marker of Hepatitis B Virus Infection in High Risk Patients

Background and Objective: Presence of hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc) in the absence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) is defined, as isolated anti-HBc. little is known about the clinical significance of the isolated anti-HBc in hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections. The aim of this study was to assess the significance of anti-HBc as the onl...
