چکیده

background: hox genes are well-known transcription factors that play essential roles in directing embryonic development. tgifly is a y-linked homeobox gene that was originally identified by virtue of its expression in adult testis. the functions of tgifly in normal and abnormal development are unknown. methods: to investigate the potential roles of tgifly gene in the infertile males, a semi-nested reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (rt-pcr) was performed on the testicular samples of 110 patients with non-obstructive azoospermia. results: the expression of tgifly in 59(53.6%) out of 110 patients were undetectable. patients with different spermatogenesis defects failed to show the expected in tgifly gene expression as demonstrated in the normal testes. conclusion: our results indicate that tgifly is expressed in testis and could be associated with infertility in patients with azoospermia. tgifly may be required for the regulation of spermatogonial stem cell specification and proliferation that is essential to the establishment and maintenance of spermatogenesis in human.

Expression of Mucin Genes in the Human Testis and Its Relationship to Spermatogenesis

In this study we investigate the expression pattern of mucin genes in the human testis and evaluate the relationship between the expression of mucin genes and impaired spermatogenesis in the human testis. Thirty human testis tissues were collected from patients undergoing diagnostic testicular biopsy to investigate the cause of infertility. One part of the tissue underwent histological observat...

Restricted Arp3 expression in the testis prevents blood-testis barrier disruption during junction restructuring at spermatogenesis.

In epithelia, a primary damage of tight junctions (TJ) always leads to a secondary disruption of adherens junction (AJ), and vice versa. This response, if occurring in the testis, would disrupt spermatogenesis because the blood-testis barrier (BTB) must remain intact during the transit of spermatids in the seminiferous epithelium, which is associated with extensive apical ectoplasmic specializa...

Analysis of Spermatogenesis and CREM Gene Expression in Testis of Rat Treated with Matricaria recutita

Camp-Responsive Element Modulator (CREM) is a key factor in the regulation of the expression of number of post-meiotic genes during spermatogenesis. Matricaria recutita shows different pharmacological activities like anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, treatment of stress and depression, anti-allergic and etc. The objectives of this study are to investigate effects of Matricaria recutita on spermat...

Expression of a novel RAD23B mRNA splice variant in the human testis.

A gene coding a novel human RAD23B protein named RAD23-like protein B, presumably involved in spermatogenesis, was identified and characterized using a complementary DNA (cDNA) microarray. In the human testis, its expression was 2.33 times higher than it was in the embryo testis, with a particularly high expression in ejaculated human spermatozoa. The full length of this gene is 1548 bp, and th...

Cancer/testis (CT) antigens, carcinogenesis and spermatogenesis.

During spermatogenesis, spermatogonial stem cells, undifferentiated and differentiated spermatogonia, spermatocytes, spermatids and spermatozoa all express specific antigens, yet the functions of many of these antigens remain unexplored. Studies in the past three decades have shown that many of these transiently expressed genes in developing germ cells are proto-oncogenes and oncogenes, which a...
