in order to obtain high yielded and tolerant to drought stress maize hybrid a breeding program was started in safiabad agricultural research center in the 1999 and a few s6 lines attained in 2005. then interactive components were created and evaluated in the preliminary and semi-finals experiment during two consecutive years. after preliminary studies, nine hybrids were selected which they were evaluated in tropical part of khozestan, kerman (jiroft) and ilam provinces in the final and on farm experiments. ultimately, mo17 × sld45/1/2-1 (hybrid karun701) cross with having short period anthesis silking interval, 7-5 days early mature than control (sc704), higher grain yield by about 500-1300 kg ha and drought tolerance attributes were selected as superior line. at the present this hybrid is cultivating in about 20,000 hectares and cultivating area still growing.
