ntroduction. the student selection at the universities has always been a matter of concern. student selection process should allow equal opportunities to all students who fulfil a set of pre-determined criteria, apart from the sex, religion, social and cultural backgrounds. moreover, the process should be quite transparent and perfectly concerned. student admission is held in different methods in the world. in this paper we have tried to survey the medical student selection in ahwaz university and collect some data on teachers’ and students’ opinions on the present selection process. methods. after determination of content validity and reliability (test -retest) of the questionnaire, 80 academic tutors and 150 last year medical students were randomly selected and filled the questionnaires. then the data was analyzed by spss statistic method. results. 26% academic tutors, 40% students believed the present student selection method is “good”. in proposing the other methods, 53.5%agreed that the universities should select the students according to their “interests” and filterize them during the time according to their abilities. only 20% of tutors and 3% of students agreed on subjective exams, while, 88% and 63.5%, agreed on written exam and “interview” respectively. 87% and 60% agreed on clinical examination on mental health. conclusion. the findings indicate that the “student selection” in iran should be rewised through a speculative approach .
