چکیده

background: psoriasis is a chronic and inflammatory dermatologic disease. inflammatory biomarkers such as c-reactive protein (crp) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (esr) are known as immediate and delayed inflammatory biomarkers, respectively. due to the fact that anti-inflammatory drugs such as infliximab are widely used in psoriasis treatment, the aim of this study was to evaluate esr, crp and pasi scores in patients treated with infliximab in a 24 week trend. materials and methods: this study was accomplished as a before-after study. twenty seven psoriatic patients were included and standard infliximab therapy was applied. all patients underwent 3 times of blood collection and in each session crp, esr and pasi scores were measured at the beginning of study and at the 12th and 24th weeks of follow-up results: a total of 19 (70.4%) men and 8 (29.6%) women were evaluated. mean age was 37.85±13.68 years. all three parameters had significant decrease in treatment course (p<0.001); however, no significant correlation was found between pasi and inflammatory biomarkers. trends of esr and crp were significantly correlated in all patients (r=0.504, p =0.007) and males (r=0.739, p =0.036). conclusion: our study demonstrated that crp and esr decreased in infliximab treatment, in accordance but non-regarded to pasi score decease. regarding other studies results, using these biomarkers for treatment follow-up might need more caution. C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate: Continuing role for erythrocyte sedimentation rate

Background: Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) tests are often done to detect or monitor patients with suspected inflammatory disorders. The objective of the study was to ascertain if the manual ESR test added value to the information available from automated CRP results alone. Methods: In this retrospective, observational study at a safety-net hospital, the ESR a...

C-Reactive Protein and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate in Orthopaedics

C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) are known as acute phase proteins, which reflect a measure of the acute-phase response. The term “acute phase” refers to local and systemic events that accompany inflammation. Local responses include vasodilation, platelet aggregation, neutrophil chemotaxis, and release of lysosomal enzymes. Systemic responses include fever, leuk...

C-Reactive Protein, Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate and Orthopedic Implant Infection

BACKGROUND C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) have been shown to be useful for diagnosis of prosthetic hip and knee infection. Little information is available on CRP and ESR in patients undergoing revision or resection of shoulder arthroplasties or spine implants. METHODS/RESULTS We analyzed preoperative CRP and ESR in 636 subjects who underwent knee (n=297), hi...

Autoantibodies, C-reactive protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and serum cytokine profiling in monitoring of early treatment

Introduction Currently used clinical scale and laboratory markers to monitor patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) seem to be not sufficient. It has been demonstrated that disease- related cytokines may be elevated very early in RA development and cytokines are considered as the biomarkers potentially useful for RA monitoring. Material and methods The group of patients with undifferen...

Diagnostic accuracy of C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate in patients with acute scrotum.

INTRODUCTION Our aim was to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in patients with acute scrotum. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred and twenty patients with acute scrotum were evaluated and divided into 3 groups: 46 with acute epididymitis (group 1), 23 with spermatic cord torsion (group 2), and 51 with other noninflammatory c...
