چکیده
background and objective: obstructive sleep apnea (osa) is frequent and in some degree it affects about 24% of male and 9% of female in middle age adults. this study aimed to assess the association between risk of osa and cad. materials and methods : this case-control study was performed among 184 patients with a history of coro- nary angiography in two catheter labs at hospitals in qom, iran. control group had normal or minimal coronary stenosis (<50%) and case group had 1, 2 or 3 coronary vessel disease. all the patients completed demographic and berlin questionnaires and then data were analyzed using spss version 16. results : mean (±sd) age of participants was 55.36 ± 10 years. a total of 119 (61.4%) patients were female. this study showed significant difference between risk of osa in patients with cad and those without cad (or=1.25), hypertension (or=10.4) and non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (or=2.12), but there were no correlation between risk of osa and ejection fraction less than 45% ( p value=0.582). conclusions : osa can be considered as one of the important risk factors for cad.

Obstructive sleep apnea and the severity of coronary artery disease
Background: It has been implicated that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease including stroke, myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease (CAD) and hypertension. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between OSA and severity of atherosclerosis assessed by angiography. Methods: This study included 337 patients ...

STUDY AIM Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is strongly associated with obesity, especially abdominal obesity. Obesity in turn is a well-known risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD). The aim of our study was to evaluate the relationship between OSA severity and CAD risk factors. MATERIAL AND METHODS The sample consisted of 73 subjects (mean age +/- SE, 46.7 +/- 1 years) referred to a slee...
متن کاملObstructive sleep apnea and coronary artery disease.
In the recent years intensive research has revealed numerous negative consequences of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) for the cardiovascular system. The pathophysiological interaction between OSA and coronary artery disease is complex and comprises neural, humoral, mechanical and haemodynamic components. One of the most important effects of OSA is an increase of sympathetic nerve traffic, which p...
متن کاملObstructive sleep apnea, detected by the Berlin Questionnaire: an associated risk factor for coronary artery disease.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a risk factor for coronary artery disease, remains under diagnosed. We investigated if OSA identified by the Berlin Questionnaire (BQ) is associated with the risk of coronary artery disease. Cases were patients referred for elective coronariography. The cases were classified with significant coronary lesions (stenosis ≥ 50% in an epicardial coronary) or without si...
متن کاملA clinical approach to obstructive sleep apnea as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with cardiovascular risk factors, cardiovascular diseases, and increased mortality. Epidemiological studies have established these associations, and there are now numerous experimental and clinical studies which have provided information on the possible underlying mechanisms. Mechanistic proof-of-concept studies with surrogate endpoints have been perf...
