چکیده
abstract phosphate is an essential element for plants, animals, and human. mobility and availability of phosphate in the natural systems is controlled by the adsorption-desorption and dissolution-precipitation reactions. iron (hydr)oxides including goethite play an important role in phosphate adsorption reactions in soil. surface area, crystallinity, and morphology of iron (hydr)oxides are the most important characteristics influencing phosphorus adsorption capacity. with respect to the importance of adsorption process in controlling equilibrium concentration of phosphate in soil and other natural systems, in this research phosphate adsorption reactions on goethite was investigated on three samples of goethite differed in surface area over a wide range of ph and initial phosphate concentration. the goethite charging behavior was calculated from acid-base titration in different levels of ionic strength. the experimental data were analyzed with the cd-music surface complexation model. titration data revealed phpzc= 9.1. experimental data revealed that phosphate adsorption is strongly ph-dependent. maximum phosphate adsorption was measured at low ph. it was gradually decreased with increasing ph. adsorption data were successfully described using two inner-sphere surface complexes, i.e . and . the calculated cd values indicated that 0.28 and 0.46 vu charge is transferred to the goethite surface due to the adsorption of and , respectively. mole fraction calculation showed that and are the dominant surface species at low and high ph, respectively. furthermore, experimental data and model calculations revealed that surface area influence phosphate adsorption considerably; however the change in the surface area has no measurable effect on the goethite site density. therefore, the entire experimental data were successfully predicted by using one set of adsorption parameters.

Adsorption, desorption, and surface-promoted hydrolysis of glucose-1-phosphate in aqueous goethite (α-FeOOH) suspensions.
Adsorption, desorption, and precipitation reactions at environmental interfaces govern the fate of phosphorus in terrestrial and aquatic environments. Typically, a substantial part of the total pool of phosphorus consists of organophosphate, and in this study we have focused on the interactions between glucose-1-phosphate (G1P) and goethite (α-FeOOH) particles. The adsorption and surface-promot...

gol-e-gohar iron ore mine of sirjan in southern part of iran is a large open pit that operates below the groundwater table and during mining operation, dewatering is required to prevent operation processes from flooding. current operation is going on by digging wells in or out of the pit and pumping to prevent flooding. as a result of the former dewatering operation a vast deep cone of depressi...
Adsorption of diclofenac onto goethite: Adsorption kinetics and effects of pH.
The adsorption of diclofenac (DCF), one of the widely used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, onto the surface of goethite was investigated with batch experiments. The adsorption at different pH values (5.3, 7.4, and 10.0) were well fitted with the pseudo-second-order model. The results showed that the adsorption of DCF onto goethite was strongly depended on solution pH. The amount of adsor...
متن کاملNIR transmittance tuneability under a magnetic field of colloidal suspensions of goethite (α-FeOOH) nanorods
Goethite (a-FeOOH) nanorods have been synthesized using two different methods, by aging at different temperatures of ferrihydrite suspensions obtained through co-precipitation, or by fast conversion of ferrihydrite through ultrasonic irradiation. The synthesis method and parameters influenced the size and shape of nanoparticles. Stable colloidal suspensions of nanorods have been prepared by pur...
متن کاملEffects of phosphate on uranium(VI) adsorption to goethite-coated sand.
U(VI)-phosphate interactions are important in governing the subsurface mobility of U(VI) in both natural and contaminated environments. We studied U(VI) adsorption on goethite-coated sand (to mimic natural Fe-coated subsurface materials) as a function of pH in systems closed to the atmosphere, in both the presence and the absence of phosphate. Our results indicate that phosphate strongly affect...
