photo corrosion of titania nanotubes within water splitting reaction

چکیده
titania nanotubes (tnt) prepared by anodization of ti foils were used for water splitting in a standalone cell. the concentration polarization between the anode side (1m naoh) and cathode side (0.5 m h2so4) ensured that the water splitting reaction could take place with no external bias and separate h2 and o2 evolution could be achieved. the destruction of tnt structures under 365 nm uv irradiation as well as the absence of the stoichiometry between the anodic and cathodic gas collectors indicates the limits of the stability of tnt structures under these conditions.

متن کاملControllable reduced black titania with enhanced photoelectrochemical water splitting performance.
Black titania prepared by metal-reduction methods is systematically studied and found the best controllable Mg-reduction method. Colored titania products from white, light blue, dark blue, to black were obtained with a crystalline/amorphous core-shell structure. The black titania shows a five times higher H2 production rate in photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting.

We demonstrate the ability to chemically transform bulk silicon into a nanotextured surface that exhibits excellent electrochemical stability in aqueous conditions for water photo-oxidation. Conformal defective graphene coatings on nanotextured silicon formed by thermal treatment enable over 50× corrosion resistance in aqueous electrolytes based upon Tafel analysis and impedance spectroscopy. T...
متن کاملHybrid bio-photo-electro-chemical cells for solar water splitting
Photoelectrochemical water splitting uses solar power to decompose water to hydrogen and oxygen. Here we show how the photocatalytic activity of thylakoid membranes leads to overall water splitting in a bio-photo-electro-chemical (BPEC) cell via a simple process. Thylakoids extracted from spinach are introduced into a BPEC cell containing buffer solution with ferricyanide. Upon solar-simulated ...
متن کاملTiO2 nanotubes with ultrathin walls for enhanced water splitting.
We demonstrate, for the first time, the synthesis of titania nanotubes with ultrathin (3-5 nm) wall thickness. As revealed by the incident photon-to-current collection efficiency (IPCE) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements, the ultrathin walls, less than the charge carrier diffusion length, were essential to ensure fast and efficient charge carrier collection.
