the effectiveness of adding a supporting implant in stress distribution of long span fixed partial denture (3d finite element analysis)

چکیده
background and aim of study: long span is seen in many clinical situations, treatment planning options of these cases are difficult and may require: fpd, rpd or isp. each option has its own disadvantages: mechanical, patient relief and cost respectively. this article will evaluate the stress distribution of another treatment option which is adding a single supporting implant to the fpd by using 3d finite element analysis. materials and methods: three models, each consisting of 5units, were created as following: 1.tooth pontic pontic pontic tooth. 2.tooth pontic implant pontic tooth. 3.tooth pontic pontic implant tooth. an axial force was applied to the prostheses by using 3d finite element method and stress was evaluated. results: maximum stress was found in the prostheses in all models, highest stress values in all shared components of the models were close. stress in implants was less in the second model than the third one. conclusions: adding a supporting implant in long span fpd has no advantages while it has the disadvantages of complicating treatment and the complications that may occur to the implant and surrounding bone itself.

Efficacy of adding a supporting implant in stress distribution of long-span fixed partial dentures: a 3D finite element analysis
Background. Long span is seen in many clinical situations. Treatmentplanning options of these cases are difficult and may require FPD, RPD or ISP. Each option has its own disadvantages, including mechanical problems, patient comfort and cost. This article will evaluate the stress distribution of a different treatment option, which consists of adding a single sup-porting implant to the FPD by us...
متن کاملThe effectiveness of adding a supporting implant in stress distribution of long span fixed partial denture (three-dimensional finite element analysis)
CONTEXT AND AIMS Long span is seen in many clinical situations; treatment planning options of these cases are difficult and may require: Fixed partial denture (FPD), removable partial denture, or implant supported prostheses. Each option has its own disadvantages: Mechanical, patient relief, and cost, respectively. This article will evaluate the stress distribution of another treatment option, ...
متن کاملinfluence of implant position on stress distribution in implant-assisted distal extension removable partial dentures: a 3d finite element analysis.
distal extension removable partial denture is a prosthesis with lack of distal dental support with a 13-fold difference in resiliency between the mucosa and the periodontal ligament, resulting in leverage during compression forces. it may be potentially destructive to the abutments and the surrounding tissues. the aim of this study was to assess the effect of implant location on stress distribu...
متن کاملeffect of the number of implants on stress distribution of anterior implant-supported fixed prostheses combined with a removable partial denture: a finite element analysis.
the main goal of this study was to evaluate differences in stress distribution relevant to the number of implants under an anterior bridge when combined with a removable partial denture in the posterior region.four three-dimensional finite element models (3d fem) were designed from a mandible containing an implant-supported bridge extending between canines, and a bilateral distal extension remo...
متن کاملStress Distribution in Four Restorative Methods in Endodontically Treated Maxillary Premolar: A 3D Finite Element Analysis
Introduction: the Restoration of endodontically treated teeth is critical, and the Awareness of stresses developed by oblique and vertical forces in restorative methods take a great role in treatment plans. Due to the anatomical shape and inherent form of the stress distribution premolars, could be lost by fractures. Some fractures such as vertical fracture which is probable in...
متن کاملPeriodontal ligament influence on the stress distribution in a removable partial denture supported by implant: a finite element analysis
OBJECTIVES The non-homogenous aspect of periodontal ligament (PDL) has been examined using finite element analysis (FEA) to better simulate PDL behavior. The aim of this study was to assess, by 2-D FEA, the influence of non-homogenous PDL on the stress distribution when the free-end saddle removable partial denture (RPD) is partially supported by an osseointegrated implant. MATERIAL AND METHO...
