چکیده

a detailed study of the exploited geothermal field of travale in italy was conducted using magnetotelluric (mt) data in 2004. this paper detects the main features of the conductivity structures of this area. for subsurface mapping purpose, the long period natural-field mt method proved very useful. for processing and modeling of the mt data, 2d inversion schemes were used and to have the best possible interpretation all modes of data were examined. the resistivity model obtained from mt data is consistent with the geological model of the travale region down to five kilometers. the current mt results reveal the presence of a deep geothermal reservoir in the area. recognition of the conductive zones in the resistive basement in many sites can clearly be interpreted as the flow of the fluids in the faults and fractures of the metamorphic rocks.

Numerical simulations of passing seismic waves at the Larderello-Travale Geothermal Field, Italy

Passing seismic waves released by large-magnitude earthquakes may affect geological systems located thousands of miles far from the epicenter. TheM9.0 Tohoku earthquake struck on 11 March 2011 in Japan. We detected local seismic activity at the Larderello-Travale geothermal field, Italy, coinciding with the maximum amplitudes of the Rayleigh waves generated by the Tohoku earthquake. We suggest ...

Application of 2D inversion of magnetotelluric in exploration of hydrocarbon in south west of Iran

Since hydrocarbon sources have an important role in development of industry and technology, exploration of them has been lionized by human. The seismic reflection method is one of the most applicable investigative methods to identify the hydrocarbon reservoirs, but in some cases this method does not work well because of geology conditions and wave attenuation in depth. Thus, some exploration me...

Magnetotelluric inversion for 2D anisotropic conductivity structures

We report on progress in developing a magnetotelluric inversion method for two-dimensional anisotropic conductivity distribution. A standard two-dimensional model is discretized into a number of rectangular cells, each with a constant conductivity tensor, and the solution of the inverse problem is obtained by minimizing a global objective functional consisting of data misfit, a structural const...

enhancing the resolving power of 2d least-squares inversion of magnetotelluric data

this paper presents results of applying a new approach on 2d inversion of magnetotelluric (mt) data in order to enhance resolution and stability of the inversion results. due to non-linearity and limited coverage of data acquisition in an mt field campaign, minimizing the error by linearization of the problem in least squares inversion usually leads to an ill-posed problem. in general, an inver...

Inversion of magnetotelluric data for 2D structure with sharp resistivity contrasts

We have developed a linearized algorithm to invert noisy 2-D magnetotelluric data for subsurface conductivity structures represented by smooth boundaries defining sharp resistivity contrasts. We solve for both a fixed number of subsurface resistivities and for the boundary locations between adjacent units. The boundary depths are forced to be discrete values defined by the mesh used in the forw...
